πBayley's firework training update!
So we have been working on playing fireworks thoughtout the house at random times and not always paired with food.
We have moved on to them playing in the garden while he is walking about doing his doggy thing and he is not bothered by them at all.
I havent used food outside but he does have the sensory garden with some calming plants which he loves.π
Next step will exposure to the sound at night when. It is dark outside in the garden.
Well done to Baxter taking to training super quickly. I think you are going to be a fun lad to work with.
First session was working on a little bit of focus and the start of loose lead walking.
Dogs need to feel comfortable and safe to learn so simply reinforcing him for choosing to be in the right place and staying calm, relaxed and quiet really helps. π
I love starting loose lead training breaking it all down into easy stages! without equipment so we can get the reinforcement right and they dont have to think about the equipment and the association it has (walkies!!)πΎ
With harness, then with lead, then change in locations π
Video shows addition if equipment and reinforcement rate. Long lead used to reduce chance of tension on lead while learning! π

Firework Desensitisation
Week one done and we have raised the volume each day while preparing and eating meals to the loudest the Alexa will go!
We are now playing the noises randomly thoughout the day while carrying out daily chores.
At the moment it is only playing from the kitchen but as the weeks progress it will play from various locations.
Im trying to only change one element at a time. Volume or location but it will always be while going about our daily life rather then just sat there training!
* Video has firework sounds
On one of the hottest days of the year so far I wake up thinking about firework season! ππ
Bayley is very noise sensitive especially to things he can't see, barking dogs in gardens, wheelie bins being moved pretty much anything sudden and out of sight!
I want to prepare him for fireworks as much as I can.
So today we started playing the sounds while I make breakfast and dinner! Doing it this way will be more "natural" as sitting with him waiting for things to happen and rewarding with food means he just sit a waits for the food and doesn't react!
I will do this every day right the way into the firework season. Bayley being a October baby I'm am hoping he would have been exposed to the firework bang as a very young pup without any fear, but I don't want to risk missing the prefect time to desensitise it.
Worth the few minutes a day rather then crossing my fingers and hoping!

Second session with the beautiful bouncy Eddie this evening, he's being practicing how to be calmer in the home while visitors come in. Eddie loves his training so make it rewarding for him and he delivers.
We practiced in all area of the home and around his brother, so he understands that we would like this behaviour throughout the home and around distractions. I look forward to a follow up in a few weeks to hopefully see even more progress.
Last time I was over he was bouncing all over me so keep up the great work guys.

Last week I got to catch up with Phoebe and family to see how her loose lead walking was coming along, and how the calm exists from house and car when going for walks were helping πΎ
I knew it was going to be a fab second session as I had been sent a video before hand of some amazing lead walking practice with her young handler, this was taken in a location that is extremely exciting for Phoebe as it a off lead walking spot for her.
Being able to help and support this family to understand and communicate with thier dog in a way that works without the need for multiple tools means they are on the path to enjoying a long and happy life exploring the world together.
This is the video I was sent of the practice between sessions. Sharing with concent of proud parents π Well Done Team Phoebe!

Bailey doing super work practicing loose lead walking. I'm actually using my hands free belt lead which really helps if you struggle to relax your handle on the lead and gives you chance to work as a team to keep lead loose. You see when Bailey gets distracted and the lead goes tight, I just stop and he comes around back to my side with no pulling from me.
If we pull, they pull! It then becomes an endless argument!

New Year 2024
Happy New Year!!!
Bailey is normally a very busy but nervous lad who is highly sensitive to the environment around him. I have been working on him being calm and taking things slowly so he is able to process things, instead of just reacting.
It's amazing what a little bit of space, time and quiet can do.
Try it on your next walk, find a bench sit down and stay quiet.
What dose your dog do?
Are they able to stand, sit or lay down calmly on their own? Or do the pace or whine
I wait for them to choose a sit or down rather then keep asking.
It meant to be a chill part of the walk not stressful.
Video of Bailey sat watching the busy pathway people and dogs going by. To the left there was another two dogs that had passed by just before I started filming.
Let's go Walkies, well only if the dog wants to go π€
Give your dog the choice
Old man Dax wanted to walk today! ππΎ
Great session with Obi and his owner today working on manners and focus when heading out the door for a walk.
Obi gets very enthusiastic to go go go!
We have slowed it all down and broke the training into bite size parts making sure Obi is staying under threshold and able to learn.
This is him today ππΎ.
Video shows Obi's focus around the open door way and then what we had started practicing today, the turn around once out of the door. (so we could shut and lock door)
Well done Obi
