I hope everyone is enjoying the weather. 😎 A couple of things to be aware of when using the facility please.
WATER - Please bring your own fresh water and water bowl - we currently have no water accessible due to tap hose being damaged. 😩
WATER TROUGH - This has a split and is leaking water at the bottom, hence why it's been fenced off, so please keep away. 😮💨
DOG BINS - For dog waste only! BIG RED SIGNS to say this and yet I'm still fishing out drinking bottles/cans weekly! 🥴🙄🤬

This is my first post in months and I'm sorry it's not a more positive one - I'm not sure whether it's the fields or myself that have felt more battered and bruised by the winter this year 😩 It's felt like one thing after another over the last few months and makes me regularly question myself whether I've got the energy for this anymore... 🏳
I've now been laid up in bed for the last 5 days with either Covid or Flu 😩😷 so unfortunately I've been unable to do my regular maintenance at the fields.
One user contacted me over the weekend to let me know that they'd found a few missed poos in field 2 and they kindly picked them up but even before the weekend I had noticed a definite drop in the standards expected recently across both fields as I was finding more on my checks than previously...
I fully appreciate the grass is getting longer than I'd ideally allow it but the ground is still so wet, there's little chance of cutting any time soon.
I really hope people can start being more respectful of the facility and each other by being MORE vigilant and responsible for your own dogs 💩 !
I will hopefully get over to the fields over the next few days, health permitting, but I'm conscious that with the Bank Holiday weekend ahead if I find standards continue to be below par I'll need to consider my next move, be it reducing session availability until the grass has been cut OR CLOSING COMPLETELY until further notice..

Mac and I enjoyed an early start and our first visit of 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣ doing maintenance checks in both fields and giving him a good run in the process.
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all our visitors, past, present and future, a very happy and healthy new year 🎉 and hope that everyone has had a great Christmas. Due to ill health I've not been very active on social media for the past few months but hope for a better year.

Those of you visiting Field 2 in the last week or so will have had the pleasure of driving through "Houndabout Ford"... 🥴 this was caused due to a blockage of the culvert pipe running underneath. I even attempted in vain to clear the blockage myself last week (by going in waist deep..) 🥶
Further rainfall last night made the issue even worse.. but due to the pipe being submerged by over 2 feet of water we needed to dig a trench across the lane to to reduce the water levels enough to access the pipe. 😫
I was thinking we could branch out from dog fields to whitewater canoeing/rafting if enough people were interested.. 🤷♂️😂
At least the issue has now been resolved, even if the solution had to be quite drastic.. Field 2 will remain closed tomorrow morning whilst the lane is made passable again but should be ok from lunchtime onwards.

Sadly black dogs are overlooked in rescue and are less likely to be adopted for no other reason than their colour. This is regardless of their behaviour, breeding, personality, size or age 😢

The drinking water is also there as a back up but as always we recommend that you bring your own drinking water for your dog, which will be fresher, and a water bowl to avoid any risk of cross contamination from other dogs.

Hopefully I'm not jinxing it.. but the forecast for the next 10 days is looking quite promising and much more like a typical May! ☀️😊 We've also just cut the fields today so they're all set and ready for another busy weekend.
Saturday is almost fully booked for both fields with a few evening slots remaining (we now close at 9pm thanks to the lighter evenings!), and sessions are still available for Sunday.

The fields finally had their first cut of the year yesterday 🙌 (despite more rain before and during the cut!)
Following a very wet March we delayed it for as long as possible but the decision was made to do the first cut in time for the Easter weekend and hopefully you'll agree that they don't look too bad at all!

Did you know today is National Puppy Day!? 🐾🥰 It sounds like the perfect excuse to share your puppy photos (and that includes all those that may have been adopted post puppy years as they are all pups in our eyes!)

It may have felt like a long winter for many of us this year... but the Spring equinox yesterday marks the start of Spring!! 🙌🐾
Clocks are going forward at the weekend and we'll all be able to enjoy lighter and lighter evenings over the coming weeks. 🙌🐾🙌

💩⚠️ I've not raised the issue of dog mess for a while.. and as I've said previously I can accept that an occasional dog poo is genuinely missed.. it can happen..
With the support of other users kindly picking up an occasional rogue poo that had been missed, and through my own regular checks, the problem is generally manageable and not an issue.
However here are a couple of examples from this weekend.. where it is NOT ok! (Sorry if you're eating!)..
A post weekend check saw an increase in the number missed that I would typically find, specifically in Field 2, which is disappointing, but when poos are being missed/left on play equipment or a step away from the car park I felt it was time for a polite reminder!
⚠️ Please be vigilant and pick up after your dogs, and be extra vigilant if you're letting your dogs out the car in Field 2 whilst changing footwear etc when it's most likely dogs will go to the toilet at the beginning.
Lets keep the fields nice for everyone. Thank you for the vast majority who's efforts and respect for the facility are hugely appreciated. 🐾

It will be 4 years in February that we officially opened our gates and welcomed our first guests to Houndabout MK! It's safe to say a few things have changed in that time.. not least the small addition of Field 2! With that in mind I thought it was about time I created a new video to summarise what Houndabout MK is all about! 🐾🥰
Each and every Autumn I have encountered the same challenges in clearing the falling leaves from Field 1.. I have quite literally put in blood (and blisters), sweat and tears into raking the leaves up and clearing away as much as possible. 🥴 However this inevitably feels like a losing battle when trying to clear over 2.5 acres of field and watching as new leaves continue to fall as quickly as I clear them..which is actually very demoralising! 😥 However my rake can now take the rest of the year off...! 👋 Introducing my new Autumnal best friend! 🙌 I've given it the first run out this afternoon for an hour or so and it was very satisfying to watch as it helped clear the leaves without breaking my back in the process and it's so much quicker! Perhaps my excitement for my new toy will be lost on a lot of you so my apologies for the post 🙈 but if you've ever spent time raking leaves, or if you can imagine the size and scale of the task that I face each Autumn you'll understand my pain and reason for my joy.. 😅 whilst it's still not perfect, I'm hoping that at least it will help me to keep on top of the leaves a little more and in the process also make the finding and picking up of your dog poo easier for you during your visits!
