To those of us out there rain, mud, snow or shine ( basically we have battled all weathers recently) , with our happy pups leading the way—this one’s for you! Roll on warmer days! A Dog Walker’s Lament

Look, I love my job. I love dogs. But do you know what I don’t love? Cold. Mud. Rain.

I’m pretty sure I haven’t had dry socks and clean boots since who knows when. My waterproofs are about as waterproof as a teabag. And let’s not even talk about the smell of wet dog that has permanently infused itself into my van. 🤣🤣

Every walk feels like a survival challenge. Will I slip in the mud? (Yes.) Will the Labrador I’m walking take that as an invitation to body slam me? (Also yes.) Will I ever be able to get the smell of fox poo out of my jacket? (Absolutely not.)

But hope is on the horizon! The days are getting longer, the sun occasionally makes an appearance, and soon we’ll be swapping the wellies for trainers and the raincoats for t-shirts. No more hosing down dogs (and myself) after every walk. No more wrestling with soggy poo bags in gale-force winds. Just blue skies, dry grass, and happy, non-muddy paws.

Roll on warmer days —because I’d really like to see my feet again.....who is with me?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we train our dogs and the tools we use. I personally can’t support things like prong, shock, or choke collars. These tools rely on fear or pain, and that’s just not the relationship I want to have with a dog. I know some of the dogs I walk have worked with trainers who use these methods, and I absolutely respect that everyone has their own approach. Please don’t take offence—it’s nothing personal to anyone. I’m not an expert, but this is my own opinion, and I believe every individual has their own perspective and way of doing things. I truly believe in positive reinforcement because it builds trust, strengthens the bond we share, and teaches through encouragement rather than punishment. Dogs thrive when they feel safe and loved, and I’ve seen firsthand how rewarding it can be. Let’s treat our furry companions with the kindness and respect they deserve!

Important Notice: Weather Update With temperatures set to drop significantly tonight, very icy and slippery conditions are expected tomorrow morning. For the safety of both us and your dogs, I’ll reassess in the morning. Walks may need to be shorter, or if you’re at home, it might be safer to cancel again. Thank you for your understanding—our safety and the dogs' safety are the top priority. Stay warm and take care!

As we say goodbye to this year and welcome the next, I want to take a moment to thank all my amazing clients for trusting me with your beloved furry and feathered friends. 🐾 Carrie’s Canines will also celebrate its first birthday in February, and what an incredible journey it’s been! From wagging tails to muddy paws ( and poo rolls 🤢) every moment has been filled with joy, laughter, and love but some sadness when we had some rainbow bridge crossings 😔🌈 Let’s leap into the new year and make 2025 even more pawsome and memorable 🎉 I’m excited to share that I now have availability for group walks—so if your pup is ready to join the fun, drop me a message, dont forget I also offer pet sitting too so if you need your feline friend or other small animal taken care of, I am happy to help too, just drop me a message 😊💜 Check out this little video of some of the adventures we’ve had this year. 🐕✨ Wishing every one of you a Happy New Year, and may 2025 bring you all the happiness and tail-wags you could wish for! 💜 Carrie 🐾
