πŸŽ‡ Fireworks might be fun for us, but they can be frightening for small pets like rabbits. As prey animals, sudden loud noises and bright flashes can make them feel scared and unsafe.

πŸ‡ Here are a few ways to help keep them calm and comfortable:

🏑 Bring them indoors or move hutches into a quiet shed or garage

🌝 Cover part of their hutch to block out light and sound (but keep it well ventilated)

🎢 Play gentle music to help mask bangs

🧺 Give them extra bedding and safe hiding places

πŸ‘―Keep bonded pairs together so they feel secure

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping rabbits safe and stress-free this firework season πŸŽ† ❀️

🐈 Let's ease cat firework anxiety with these five top tips 🐈

πŸ›οΈ Create a Cosy Hideaway: Set up a snug space for your cat to retreat to during the fireworks. A quiet corner with their favourite blanket or a covered cat bed can provide comfort and security.

πŸ’¦ Food & Water Access: Make sure your cat has access to food and water throughout the night. If you know fireworks are coming, consider feeding them a little earlier to reduce stress during mealtime.

🏑 Secure Your Home: Close all windows and doors to prevent your frightened kitty from darting outside. Use curtains or blinds to block out flashes of light from the fireworks.

πŸ“» Play Soothing Sounds: Use soft music or turn on the TV to help mask the sound of fireworks. Cats often find comfort in familiar noises, which can help ease their anxiety

🫣 Provide Hiding Spots: Cats love to hide! Leave boxes or tunnels aro ❀️ und for your cat to explore and retreat to when they feel scared. These spaces can make them feel safer

Please share this post to help other cat owners keep their kitties safe and sound!

πŸŽ‡ πŸŽ† New Years Eve Preparation 🎊 πŸ•›

πŸŽ† Let's ease dog firework anxiety with these five top tips πŸŽ‡

🚽 Toilet Time: Try to get your dog to go to the toilet before the fireworks start and keep them indoors during the displays.

πŸ’¦ Food & Water Access: For dogs that struggle to eat when stressed, ensure they have access to food and water all night. If you know when the worst nights for fireworks will be, feed your dog late afternoon or early evening before the noise begins.

🏑 Secure Your Home: Make sure your home is secure by closing all doors and windows, as scared pets can sometimes bolt. Close curtains and blinds to minimise flashes.

πŸ“» Create Background Noise: Play moderately loud rhythmic music with a good beat to help mask the sound of fireworks. Alternatively, familiar sounds like the TV may also comfort your dog.

πŸ•Prevent Trapping: Ensure your dog cannot get trapped, as this may worsen their phobias. Avoid shutting them in tight spaces.

πŸŽ‰ We wish everyone a fun and safe NYE πŸŽ‰

3 days to go... πŸŽπŸŽ„β›„πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ„

Is everyone ready for Christmas?

How photogenic is beautiful Luna? πŸ“Έ

Luna recently underwent a spay procedure at Holly House.

What does it mean to spay your kitten❓

🐾 Generally, kittens reach sexual maturity at around four months of age, so the safest option is to book them in to be neutered from four to six months of age.

🐾 Spaying involves the removal of the ovaries and uterus (womb).

♀️Neutering a female cat (spay):

🐾 Unneutered female kittens come into season every three weeks during their sexually active times of the year, and this will attract the attention of unneutered males who will fight, spray and vocalise.

🐾 Spaying a cat greatly reduces the chance of them getting the life-threatening womb infection called pyometra and reduces the chance of mammary tumours.

Naughty ❌ Nice βœ…

I think it's safe to say Wes will be making it on to the nice list indefinitely.

Wes is an 8 week old Staffy and visited Holly House this week for his primary vaccination course πŸ’‰

‼️It is crucial that puppy vaccinations and/or dog vaccination re starts have the 1st vaccine followed by a 2nd vaccine exactly 4 weeks later.

If the 2nd vaccination is missed or longer than 4 weeks it is likely the vaccine won't be as effective, which means your dog will not have the full cover and the vaccine course will have to be completed again.

Reception will make sure when booking your puppy in for their vaccinations or booking your dog in for a restart of their vaccinations that you can commit to an appointment exactly 4 weeks later πŸ“†

If you have any questions about vaccinations/ vaccination restarts give us a call and one of our friendly reception team can help you.

🎁 πŸŽ„ Bella's Top Tips πŸŽ„πŸŽ

With 10 days to go, Bella stopped by Holly House today to give us some great advice on how to keep your pets safe this festive season.

πŸŽ„Chocolate is extremely poisonous to dogs.

πŸŽ„Be careful when sharing festive food with your pet:

Turkey bones can potentially cause blockages and damage to your pet’s digestive tract.

High fat foods such as pigs in blankets can sometimes cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), and onions (as part of the allium family of plants) are toxic to cats and dogs.

πŸŽ„Beware of antifreeze poisoning. Symptoms include: vomiting, drooling, seeming drunk, having seizures and drinking and weeing more.

πŸŽ„Grit can sometimes irritate your pets paws, causing mild to, in some cases, more severe discomfort.

πŸŽ„ Make sure Christmas plants aren’t eaten. Keep poinsettia, ivy, holly and mistletoe out of reach to avoid stomach upsets.

‼️If your pet is unwell over the festive period or has eaten something they shouldn’t have done, contact your veterinary practice for help and support.

Wishing you a safe and merry Christmas!
