Case of the weekβ¦

Meet Tia.
Over the last few years, Tia has suffered with Equine Recurrent Uveitis in the left eye. Uveitis is a very common, chronic and painful condition in horses causing inflammation of the uvea, one of the layers of the eye, and often leads to blindness. It is often caused secondary to another condition such as a corneal ulcer or after the eye has sustained trauma.
Uveitis can also be caused due to a primary condition, which was the case for Tia. This could be due to genetics, an autoimmune disease or due to an unknown trigger.
Tiaβs owners had managed to medically manage the uveitis with ocular drops, pain relief and with the implantation of a suprachoroidal cyclosporine implant. Unfortunately, Tiaβs condition progressed and was no longer responding to the medication prescribed and Tia had lost her sight in the eye.
It was decided that the next step for Tia to make her more comfortable was for her to have an enucleation, an operation involving removing the eye.
Both our vets Hannah and Lucy performed the enucleation.
Tia has made a lovely recovery and is now much more comfortable, adapting really well to life with one eye.
