About Us
With over 30 years experience within the industry, NAF is one of the most innovative equine supplement manufacturers in the world, utilising cutting edge research and ingredients sourced from across the globe to formulate our nutritional products. The techniques involved in creating these formulas enable the ingredients to be combined together in complex and synergistic blends, to provide

far greater benefits to the horse than those they could offer singularly. The Five Star formulations are not only the flagship products of their specific sectors within the wide range of NAF nutritional formulas, they set the standard and lead the rest of the supplement
market. The result is an extensive range of products which are designed to offer something for your horse’s every need. Team GBR
At NAF, we are extremely proud of the high standards of the products that we manufacture. We are Official Suppliers to the British Equestrian Team. This enables riders from all British Team disciplines to use NAF products, under the direction of the British Team Vets, to support the health and fitness of their team horses when competing for their country. All NAF products are safe to feed under FEI regulations. It’s not only Team GBR riders that believe in NAF products to keep their horses in optimum condition and peak performance. Many other riders, from leisure riders and Pony Clubbers, through to professionals and International riders trust NAF to keep their horses happy, healthy and in great condition. Quality Control
NAF's extensive research and development programmes, including clinical trials, ensure that our formulations are continually updated and improved in line with the latest findings, so they remain at the forefront of innovative nutritional support. We have a purpose built on-site laboratory and from this facility, our Quality Assurance team process samples and test results of every raw material and finished mix to check they all meet the rigorous specifications of our quality procedures. The majority of testing required is specialised, so NAF use a fully accredited external laboratory to ensure that all results are independent. We also conduct regular audits of our suppliers as well as our own manufacturing operations, ensuring that all guidelines and industry standards are adhered to. All ingredients used in feed and supplements must comply with EU feed law, regarding the use of feed materials and additives, and the presence of undesirable substances. The EU additives list is continually being updated, and it is NAF’s responsibility to remain abreast of any changes, and the sub-regulations which may apply to the use of each particular additive. This is something we take very seriously. As a fully UFAS (Universal Feed Accreditation Scheme) accredited supplement company, NAF adhere to stringently high quality control standards in how our products are manufactured, and guarantee full traceability of all ingredients right back to their source. We are also one of the first companies in the UK to meet the strict manufacturing requirements of the BETA NOPS code to ensure the control of naturally occurring prohibitive substances (NOPS) in our products. So to guarantee that you are giving your horse very the best, make sure you feed NAF - the name you can trust.

Protect your horse’s legs this winter!

Wet and muddy conditions can be tough on your horse’s skin. Here are our top tips to help you stay ahead...

Liberally apply our rich MudGard Barrier Cream to clean, dry legs before turn out or training sessions in wet, muddy or sandy conditions to minimise bacterial attack.

Our MudGard Barrier Cream contains MSM to support healthy skin and hair growth, and rosemary to soothe sore areas.

Opinions are divided as to whether to wash legs when they come back from the field. It is thought that both wetting and chilling are key triggers, so when you wash legs regularly ensure they’re thoroughly dried too.

Alternatively, you may wish to apply wraps over the muddy legs, which keeps them warm; simply brush dry mud off in the morning and reapply MudGard Barrier Cream before turnout.

We’d love to hear from you - what’s your routine for muddy legs? 👇 Drop your thoughts in the comments below!

It's really chilly outside but our working horses still use sweat as their principle means of heat dissipation during the cold winter months. Our top tip is to wash sweat and winter grime right out of your horse's hair with NAF Warming Wash. This no rinse body wash containing Ginger and Clary Sage will warm and cleanse your horse after exercise on cold winter days. It's good to know there's no soap, detergents or thickening agents hiding in the formula so it's really gentle and very easy to use, just a couple of capfuls in a bucket of warm water and away you go. Sweat and dirt are lifted with ease and the subtle warming fragrance is both soothing and relaxing. The result is a clean, shining, happy horse who smells good too! Have you tried it yet? 🧡

Brrr… It’s chilly!

A sudden cold snap can mean a change of routine and longer spent in the stable. While every effort should be taken to maintain their regime as close to normal as possible, if a change is unavoidable then ensure gut health is protected. A three day course of NAF Instant Biotics supports their digestive tract through the adjustment. Feeding NAF Five Star GastriAid daily through winter nourishes a healthy, robust hindgut microbiome, to maintain digestive health.

Take extra care to ensure clean, fresh water is always available. Check field troughs and stable buckets for ice regularly. To minimise the risk of freezing, keep water containers topped up and use large containers where practical, as a larger volume takes longer to freeze. Leave a float, such as a football or basketball, in the trough which prevents freezing as it bobs about. Lag stable buckets by using old rugs around them, or try placing the bucket inside a larger one and filling the space between with insulation such as clean stable bedding.

When stabled, horses naturally move much less than in the field, and that can be detrimental to gut health as their digestive system has evolved to work most efficiently while quietly moving. Provide stable enrichment by splitting their forage into two different feeders placed across the stable, with their water and NAF Himalayan Salt Lick in opposite corners again, to encourage that natural grazing movement around the box.

Do you have any top tips for coping with the cold?

Q: When does a horse need Superflex Senior? What would you consider ‘Senior’?

A: That’s a really good question, and there is no one single answer.
Certainly as horses get into their teens and beyond we would advise upgrading to Superflex Senior, but it does depend on the individual. Horses, of any age, in hard or advanced work appreciate the high specification blend of Superflex Senior, and we also recommend it where their joint health history dictates.

At this time of year, we all love a clear, bright frosty morning – and our horses seem to enjoy them too! We might find ourselves heading out on a ‘fresher’ than normal horse, or just enjoy watching them kicking up their heels in the field. However, with hard ground comes risk.

🔹 Frozen Fields - A frozen field means free exercise on hard ground, and any poached areas in particular can cause uneven strain on legs and joints. However, we don’t want to keep them in, as daily turnout is so important for both mental and physical wellbeing.

🔹 Roadwork - Frozen ground can also increase the amount of roadwork in their ridden exercise. While appropriate roadwork can be useful in strengthening joints, a sudden increase could add additional strain to the joints.

🔹 School Surfaces - Consider too your school surface. Access to a school can be invaluable at this time of year. However, if, for example, your horse is having to adapt from frozen ground outside, to a deep sand school indoor arena, we need to consider the changing challenges that brings and support them through those.

Developed by our team of Vets and Nutritionists, feed NAF Five Star Superflex daily to nutritionally maintain strong, healthy joints in all horses and ponies from the inside out. Available in original Five Star Superflex and Five Star Superflex Senior, to suit all life stages and all levels of work.

Frosty Grass & Laminitis Risk...

Frosty mornings may look beautiful, but for our laminitis prone horses and ponies, they bring hidden dangers. While it’s tempting to believe melted frost means safe grazing, that’s not the full story. Here's what you need to know:

🌱 Sugar Build Up:
On bright, sunny days, grass produces sugars through photosynthesis, storing them overnight. When temperatures drop below 5°C, grass respiration (which uses those sugars) halts, leaving sugar levels dangerously high for laminitics.

⚠️ Management Tips:
Avoid grazing during bright, cold spells until overnight temps stay above 5°C or cloudy weather returns.
Feed low NSC hay (under 10%). Soak to reduce sugars effectively.
Offer slightly warm drinking water to encourage hydration and prevent impaction colic.

❄️ Additional Risk Factors:
Hard ground sensitivity - Use hoof boots for protection and circulation.
PPID horses - Rug appropriately as they struggle to regulate body temperature.
For good-doers - balance warmth and weight loss by monitoring rugs carefully.

💡 Diet Adjustments:
Limit hard feed and focus on fibre.
Balance the diet with a broad spectrum supplement or balancer to provide essential nutrients.

Remember, a little extra care now helps protect your horse from the risks of frosty weather.
