The frequency of brushing depends largely on your dog’s coat type. 🐶 you don’t know your dog’s coat type? Check below 👇🏻

🐾 Short: Breeds like Boxers, Dalmatians, and German Shorthaired Pointers have smooth, low-maintenance coats.

🦮 Long: Afghan Hounds, Shih Tzus, and Bearded Collies have long hair that can be straight, wavy, or curly, requiring regular grooming.

🐕 Medium: Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, and Siberian Huskies need regular brushing to prevent tangling.

🐩 Curly: Curly breeds such as Poodles, Portuguese Water Dogs, and Bichon Frises have coats ranging from waves to ringlets, needing frequent brushing.

🐕‍🦺 Wiry: Dachshunds, Jack Russell Terriers, and Hungarian Vizslas have rough, low-shedding coats that benefit from specialized grooming.

🐺 Double: German Shepherds, Alaskan Malamutes, and Labrador Retrievers have dense undercoats and require frequent brushing.

The bright flashes and loud bangs of fireworks can be exciting and fun for us, but for our cats, they can be confusing and frightening 😿

It’s difficult for them to understand that they aren’t in danger when they hear or see them, and since their senses are much better than ours, they experience fireworks more intensely than we do!

Here are our top tips to help your feline friend feel happy and safe during fireworks season, proudly supported by Ever Clean UK 🎆

[Visual description: An infographic explaining how to keep your cat calm during fireworks. There is a picture of a grey stripy animated cat in the middle of the picture, with gold sparks surrounding it. Points around the cat include: Get them inside well before dark and make sure all windows and cat flaps are shut/locked so they can’t get back out. Don’t pick up cats or restrain them if they are scared: cats prefer to control how they cope. Close your curtains before it gets dark and leave the lights on to hide the flashes. Try to stick to normal routines and behave normally. But if it helps, distract them with something fun to do. Make them a den to hide in if they wish. Provide a litter tray nearby. Comfort them if they come to you for reassurance, don’t ignore them. Give them a litter tray near their den. Even if they normally toilet outside, provide a litter tray inside. If you have more than one cat, give them a tray each plus a spare. Never punish them for anything they do when they’re scared. Play music to drown out the noises from fireworks. Keep them calm with pheromone diffusers. Try not to confine them to one room.]

SHOULD I HAVE MY DOG GROOMED IN WINTER?

A common misconception is that we should leave our dog’s coat longer in winter as they will feel the cold, when in actual fact, the opposite is often the case.

When a dog’s coat is left long, unless you groom it meticulously on a daily basis and dry it after walks, it will retain the cold and damp and actually make your dog colder.

A coat which is left long in the winter is likely to become matted as it will constantly be getting wet and a damp coat is difficult to maintain, unless you wash and dry the coat after every walk which is very high maintenance.

Keeping your dog’s coat shortish and manageable in the winter will be much easier to keep clean and dry and will be much more comfortable for your dog, allowing air to circulate through the coat and avoiding a long, matted, damp coat sitting against your dog’s skin.

Most dogs live in our homes with us which are centrally heated and warm. If it is extremely cold, you can put a coat on your dog on walks and remove it at home when they are in the warm.
