Emotional morning here at pigdon turning out our first lot of horses ❤️
Great news we are clear with the exception of 4 horses, these horses do NOT have active strangles but they do need a second flush, these horses have been completely isolated from everything else on the yard and should have the all clear within the next two weeks.
It's been hard and expensive but we have contained it kept everyone safe and are absolutely over the moon with our results.
Finally today was our last group to be flushed.
Now just to wait for results all went really well and looking very positive.
Every yard that goes through this really needs to learn the importance of the guttural pouch flush, it is the ONLY way to make sure your horses are clear and you're not putting any others at risk.
Strangles was brought on to Pigdon because others weren't as honest as we have been so please everyone let's all work together and stop the stigma.
2nd group having their guttural pouches flushed today
Hi everyone just an update.
We had explained in our previous posts that the WHOLE yard at pigdon will be getting guttural flushed even though most of our horses never had any symptoms of strangles and it was quickly contained in our red zone as this was the only way to ensure pigdon was 100 percent clear and everyone else around us is safe.
These are the pictures from today of our first group being flushed.
Update on those who have been trying to leave pigdon
One confirmed case and 3 direct contact but no symptoms are leaving the yard.
This is possibly due to them not wanting to pay for guttural flushes, management have done all they can but sadly these people are leaving against management's and vets advice. There is nothing we can legally do to stop them however we will be taking all measures to make sure they have 0 contact with anyone else.
One livery has given proof she is going to sole use land however the other has not. The yard is also making the owners sign a document which states they are going to sole use land and are leaving against our advice and accept full responsibility for their actions.
We really hope they are being honest and we apologise that there is nothing else we can do to keep them here. The good news is we have all guttural flushes booked and we will be clear of this in 3/4 weeks I will again update you all once this is done.
Update on yesterday.
Management have managed to come to an arrangement with livery who was trying to leave and they will be staying untill they have had the gutteral flush.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this post ❤ We are all relieved that Eve has been able to stop this from happening.
Once all horses have had the flush you will all be updated.
Hi everyone quick update the lady leaving has a coloured cob and a white Shetland. One horse is positive for strangles and was the first horse on our yard to have symptoms a few weeks after arriving to pigdon, the other has not been confirmed but did have a slight cough when he arrived to us.
She has told us she is leaving to go to a field but we have not been given proof of this.
We have to be careful what we say as we are already being threatened with solicitors if we tell anyone so if anyone has a lady coming on with two horses that match the descriptions given please contact us and we can share details privately.
Legally there is nothing more we can do to keep her here but she won't tell us where she is going so this is our only choice to try and keep others safe.
Hi everyone just an update on our situation.
As you are aware all our horses here at pigdon will be getting guttural flushed even the ones that haven't had any symptoms of strangles. This is to ensure everyone is safe and we know all our horses are clear before outings however this has not been done yet.
Once all our horses have been flushed we will update you all via our page.
If anyone comes to you from pigdon please be aware NONE of the horses have been flushed yet and our yard is still on total lock down no horses on or off.
If any horses were to leave the yard without management's knowledge it will be posted on here as it has been brought to our attention that somone may be trying to move horses without us knowing.
It's absolutely terrible that we are having to post this but we need to keep not only our horses safe but everyone else's it's very sad that some could be so selfish and we are hoping this is just a vicious rumour or misunderstanding.
UPDATE
hi everyone thankyou for all the support and messages on how well myself, staff and liverys are handling our current situation we have even been given gold standards from vets and i appreciate this so much, I'm absolutely overwhelmed with how many positive comments I've received.
As promised this is an update to let you all know what is going on.
All our horses are doing well and we are still taking temperatures twice daily and will continue to do so, anyone who has taken a horses temperature will know this isnt always an easy task 🙈😅 Unfortunately the horse that had had direct contact with the horse who has tested positive is also now positive and has been isolated. We have one other mini pony who had possible contact through a fence who has a high temperature and is in isolation however no positive test and no signs of strangles.
No other horses have had contact so this was our worst case scenario we now just need to get through this, again please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
As always at pigdon we are maintaining a positive attitude and are over the moon that none of the horses affected are poorly and are all doing really well. We are getting through this and all of our liverys have agreed to the guttural pouch wash after our 4 weeks to ensure they are all safe to go back out and about any new liverys will also have to have strangles tests before coming to pigdon as we have learnt even the best isolation measures don't always work.
IMPORTANT NOTICE.
Hi everyone I have been off social media since January however I have came back on just to inform everyone of what is actually happening at pigdon stables.
I have already contacted all the relevant people in the area but after hearing rumours I think it's best I put them to bed.
We have one pony who has tested positive for strangles, the horse in question is in contact with one other horse, neither has left the yard and havent been near any of the other horses. The mini pony's are kept in there own area and neither of them are ridden they are kept away from other horses due to them being so small, anyone who has been to pigdon will be aware of how the minis area is set up.
We received results last night and the whole block where the pony is kept had been locked down since last week.
No other horses have symptoms but the whole yard is locked down for 4 weeks. We have all our bio security in place and are taking all the horses temperatures daily I will post on here if any other horses even have a spike in temperature so you are all aware of what's going on.
The pony in question is well in himself and its been quite a shock to us all that this was strangles. However I have taken quick action and a test was done straight away.
This one case has been contained and there is
NO RISK to neighbouring yards including Calla Equestrian and Benridge Stables.
Lastly I am having a meeting with my liverys and staff tonight on strangles so all liverys are aware of risks etc. This video will then be posted on our page and will hopefully help ease everyones mind and give you all the corrects facts ie it's NOT airborne.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this post ❤️
