There are many in Much Wenlock who are suffering from symptoms at present - get your spring booster when invited.

โ€ผ๏ธ Coronavirus infections are rising in Shropshire and across the UK โ€ผ๏ธ

The increase is thought to be down to the rise of BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron variants.

If you are 75+ or high risk, you can protect yourself by getting the Spring booster.

Also, it's not too late to get the 1st, 2nd or booster doses!

This rise has been reflected in the number of people being treated for the virus in our local hospitals and sadly there were a further 4 deaths during this time.

Public Health Shropshire continues to deal with outbreaks in settings such as care homes where testing is ongoing.

Rachel Robinson, Shropshire Councilโ€™s director of public health, said: โ€œFree testing is still available until Thursday 31 March 2022, so please considering using a Lateral Flow Test to check for COVID-19 before meeting with someone more vulnerable, or in large groups.โ€

โ€ข Ensure you are fully vaccinated and boosted
โ€ข Take a Lateral Flow Test beforehand to check for COVID-19
โ€ข Self-isolate, and do not attend gatherings and events, if you have symptoms
โ€ข Open a window to ensure indoor areas are well ventilated

Shropshire Council has been working with NHS partners to extend the opening hours of the clinic to support the national COVID-19 booster campaign, and help offer booster jabs and vaccinations to 160,000 people by the end of December.

The clinic will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day but will re-open on 27 December.

From 3rd-9th December there were 1,662 new Covid cases reported in Shropshire โ€“ a 2% decrease on the previous week. Latest figures show, however, that cases have risen again since.
There were 27 people in our local hospitals being treated for COVID-19 and sadly, there were 8 further deaths during this time.

Helping each other in and around Much Wenlock

The Coronavirus pandemic is fast-moving, and with it new information is becoming available every day. A small group of local residents has decided that, whilst trying to channel the advice coming from many quarters might seem helpful, it would be better to let the news media deal with that. We have to allow the Government and NHS to handle a fast-moving situation.

What we can do locally, however, is look after each other - especially those residents classed as vulnerable. The Governmentโ€™s directive requires us to stay at home except in certain circumstances. You could help by

โ€ข Shopping, running errands such as collecting prescriptions from the pharmacy etc.

โ€ข Problems arising from social isolation - this could last many weeks
