Public Health Shropshire continues to deal with outbreaks in settings such as care homes where testing is ongoing.
Rachel Robinson, Shropshire Councilโs director of public health, said: โFree testing is still available until Thursday 31 March 2022, so please considering using a Lateral Flow Test to check for COVID-19 before meeting with someone more vulnerable, or in large groups.โ

There were 1,548 new cases reported between 10-16 December โ a decrease of 6%. Shropshireโs 7-day infection rate is now below the national and regional averages; however, it is expected cases will rise very quickly again over the Christmas and New Year period.
Sadly, there were 4 further deaths in our local hospitals during this time, and 26 people were receiving hospital treatment for COVID-19.

Shropshire Council has been working with NHS partners to extend the opening hours of the clinic to support the national COVID-19 booster campaign, and help offer booster jabs and vaccinations to 160,000 people by the end of December.
The clinic will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day but will re-open on 27 December.

Two cases of Omicron have now been confirmed in Shropshire.
Shropshire Council's Public Health team is working closely with the UK Health Security Agency to ensure all appropriate actions are taken.
Both cases and their close contacts are self-isolating as per the Government guidance.
In the week of 26 November โ 2 December, there were 1,698 new cases reported. Shropshireโs infection rate remains high than the national and regional averages. We still have the second highest rates in the West Midlands, just behind Telford & Wrekin.
Sadly there were a further 7 deaths reported and 46 people were receiving treatment for COVID-19 in our local hospitals.

Whilst infection rates in Shropshire remain lower than in many parts of the country, positive cases are still being seen across all age groups.
Many residentsโ thoughts will now be turning to the festive period, after the Government announced coronavirus restrictions will be eased to allow people to mix with a slightly wider circle of family and friends.
Between 23 and 27 December, the three households in a โChristmas bubbleโ can mix indoors and stay overnight. Bubbles will be allowed to meet up:
โข In each otherโs homes
โข At a place of worship
โข In an outdoor public space, or garden.
The bubbles will be fixed, so you will not be able to mix with two households on Christmas Day and two different ones on Boxing Day. Households in your Christmas bubble canโt bubble with anyone else.
The Coronavirus pandemic is fast-moving, and with it new information is becoming available every day. A small group of local residents has decided that, whilst trying to channel the advice coming from many quarters might seem helpful, it would be better to let the news media deal with that. We have to allow the Government and NHS to handle a fast-moving situation.
What we can do locally, however, is look after each other - especially those residents classed as vulnerable. The Governmentโs directive requires us to stay at home except in certain circumstances. You could help by
โข Shopping, running errands such as collecting prescriptions from the pharmacy etc.
โข Problems arising from social isolation - this could last many weeks
โข Deliver meals or supplies by car to isolated residents
โข Be a telephone friend for isolated residents
โข Post mail for isolated residents
โข Walk someone's dog
If youโd like to help, please email [email protected] with your name address and telephone number. Please put โMutual Aidโ in the subject line and list ways in which you can help - shopping, delivering meals, gardening, dog-walking, talking on the telephone with self-isolators etc.
