Fireworks seem to be starting earlier every year, right?? π
So here are a few simple ways to help keep your dog safe and settled over the next few weeks.
There are lots of small things we can do to help our dogs feel safe, but if your dog really struggles at this time of year, please speak to your vet and get support from a qualified behaviourist to help them feel more comfortable next year.
π Check your dogβs ID tags are up to date and easy to read β if they do get spooked, this makes it easier to get them home.
π Get walks done a few hours before fireworks start, and keep them on lead (even in the garden) so they canβt bolt if theyβre frightened.
π Have tasty chews or filled Kongs ready β these can help distract them and build a positive association with the noise.
π Close the curtains, turn the TV up a little, and make things cosy.
π Try using calming products like Pet Remedy to help them relax.
π Set up a den or safe space where they can hide if they need to β a crate covered with blankets or a comfy corner can make a big difference.
π And most importantly, itβs absolutely fine to comfort your dog if theyβre scared. You wonβt make it worse β kindness always helps. π«Ά
