March is Pet Poison Prevention Month

Many toxins are common products that can be found around the house. It is important to familiarise yourself with common poisons, so you can make sure that they are out of your pet's reach.

Here are a some of the most common substances, that need to be kept out of reach:
- Human Foods - Chocolate, grapes, raisins, currents, onions, garlic and Xylitol (sugar substitute).

- Human medications - Ibuprofen, Naproxen, cold medications and some herbal supplements.

- Plants - Lilies, daffodils, tulips, azaleas and many more.

- Household products - paint, glue and some cleaning products.

- Lawn and garden chemicals, fertilisers and anti-freeze can seriously harm pets.

- Rodent, snug and snail poison can contain harmful chemicals, so it is important to check the chemicals before using them.

Vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, drooling and seizures can all be potential side effects.

If you think your dog has ingested a toxin, you should contact your vet immediately. There is also a dedicated Animal Poison Line (APL) their contact number is 01202 509000. It is a 24 hour triage service for pet owners who need advice if they believe their pet has been in contact with something harmful.

February is Pet Dental Health Awareness Month 🦷

It is important to look after your pet's dental health. Poor oral hygiene can lead to periodontal disease, pain and eventually can impact your pet's heart, liver and kidneys.

Regular brushing (with a pet toothbrush and toothpaste) is encouraged, as well as looking out for any discomfort (difficulty eating, bad breath and excessive drooling).

If your pet is showing any signs of pain or discomfort, you should contact your vet.

It's going to be chilly over the next few days!

Please leave a jumper/coat out for me to put on, if your dog struggles to cope with colder temperatures. Short haired breeds, small and senior dogs may be more prone to feeling it.

I'll make sure to wipe paws off after walks as well!
