Here are some tips for finding a good pet sitter. It's important to find someone you are comfortable with staying in your house and looking after your pet.

It's perfectly ok to meet a few different pet sitters, we all do things differently and your pet might gel better with a particular person.

Make sure to do your research! Anyone can offer pet sitting, which means that someone could be looking after your pet, with no experience or qualifications. I have my vet nurse training and keep my first aid knowledge up-to-date.

Make sure that you check their reviews and a reputable pet carer, will be able to provide you with references on request.

Just a reminder with this hot weather that we are experiencing.

Heat stroke is a life-threatening condition, which happens due to a dog's inability to cool down. They aren't able to cool themsevles down by sweating like we do.

It's important to know what signs to look for, here is a list of a few:
Heavy panting or drooling
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Unsteady legs
Glassy eyes
Racing heart
Excessive thirst

It is essential that you call your vet immediately if you think your dog has heat-stroke. It is a good idea to start trying to cool them down, by pouring cold water over them and making sure they are in a cool place (DO NOT cover your dog in wet towels)

Hope this information helps, share to spread awareness!

There are a few reasons why it is just as important, for smaller dogs and those that aren't high energy, to have regular walks.

Mental health ๐Ÿง
Regular walks provide dogs with enrichment for their mind. It doesn't have to be a fast-paced walk, where the dog is running around, burning off energy. Slow-paced walks are just as good because sniffing is how dogs explore the environment and it releases dopamine (the feel good chemical).

Physical Health ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
Taking your dog on regular walks is important for their health, it can help to prevent chronic health conditions and keep your dog's weight under control.

Socialisation ๐Ÿ—ฃ
Walking is great for socialising your dog - espeically small dogs that are often a bit more wary of the world. Getting your dog out and about frequently, means that they can explore new sounds, smells and noises, which will helps their confidence grow. It also means that your dog can meet other dogs, if they like interacting with others.

Make sure you are walking your dogs that aren't neccessarily "high-energy", as it is just important for them to have exercise.

I offer shorter 30 minute walks, they are great for dogs that don't need to exerice for an hour and would just like to get out and explore for a bit.

The 30 minute walks that I offer, are both solo and group walks. Message me if you would like any more information.

Every day is different for me at the moment.

Generally I have cat/horse visits in the morning, walks throughout the day and visits again in the evening - then it's home time or back to a pet sit

One of the things that I love about my job, is the variety and how different each day can be!

Some very happy pooches, getting to stay in their own home, while theirs owners are away.

I had a lovely week at home looking after Poppy, while my parents were on holiday. I think she was happy to have my undivided attention for the week, as I've not been around much!

โ˜€๏ธTop Tip โ˜€๏ธ

With the high temperatures that we are experiencing, it is best to avoid walking your dog in the heat - stick to early morning or late evening walks.

If you're worried about your dog missing out on their lunchtime walk, you can provide them with mental exercise instead, which is just as tiring.

Some enrichment ideas are:
- Using puzzle toys and Kongs
- Providing natural chews and treats
- Hiding treats/toys around the house for your dog to find
- Freezing lick mats or dog friendly foods like carrots
- Indoor training

Hope this will help to keep your dog cool and calm!

This is just a reminder, to make sure that your pet's microchip is registered and the details are up to date.
It will help ensure that you are reunited with your pet, if they were to ever go missing and are scanned with a microchip scanner.
