- Farrier

- Bucking
- Rearing

I work through these problems forming a strong leadership using different techniques from around the world including natural horsemanship, conditioned response training, round pen work and various other method

s depending on what suits that individual horse. If your leadership is right your horse will want to be with you and work for you.

Groundwork Courses for the humans 🤗
With Talent Of The Horse 🤠🐴👩‍🎓🦄

Learn about horse behaviour with Kay Maclachlan & Perry 🐴

Stage One - Foundation program
Saturday 7th December
1pm-4pm *2 spaces left
Just outside Nantwich CW5

In hand work, halter and rope, arena and classroom based. Horses provided 🐴
This is a practical course
£90 payable on booking

The skills being taught will be as follows:

Herd language and communication
Why we do Groundwork
Learning to fit and tie the halter correctly
Pressure, what is it and how to use it. When to release pressure

The ‘drive’ and yield areas from the ground.
The movements in the foundation and practical lessons in how to use them with my willing boys.

In our small group we shall go through what ‘respect’ training is and what it is to the horse.

We will work with my horses covering all that’s included in the foundation program.
Lunging for respect, how and why we turn the way we do and require the control over the body etc.

Controlling the hind quarters, the engine and why.

Learning to soften the horse and work with them from the ground effectively and progressively in a way they understand.

We will cover how to use the equipment effectively such as the halter and long rope.

You will go home with a good introduction to groundwork and where it starts.

You are then open to participate in the follow on stage course. I recommend getting onto a ‘skills and drills’ clinic to further your equipment techniques and they’re great fun.

Young Horse Groundwork Clinic

Talent of the Horse
Saturday 23rd November 12.30-1.30pm
£45 1 hour long

This clinic is with your horse at my facility just outside Nantwich

It’s great experience for any horse, giving you the opportunity to take your horse out and train. In an environment he can ask questions and learn with his experiences.

Finding relaxation for the horse and for next time. Not ‘surviving’ the event, but enjoying the experience 😉

Manners and good behaviour at shows and gatherings are taught, when the horse understands the situations it will relax and grow in confidence with each good experience.

In our small group we shall work on foundation topics.
Covering foundation topics relevant to the participants.
These may include…

Lunging for respect, how and why we work the horse this way.

Controlling the hind quarters, the engine and why.

Standing still quietly in a group

Back up, from pressure and without pressure and why this is important.

Lateral flexions and start some lateral steps if relevant.

Gaining clear communication between you and your horse.
Learning to soften the horse and work with them from the ground effectively and progressively.

This is fantastic for young horses starting their education and journeys out. This is good for all partnerships, learn and grow confidence together with a strong foundation of communication.

To move onto working around one another softly, having the ‘tools’ to enable your horse to ‘focus’ and learn. Applying your ‘Ground rules’ when out in a positive, structured way when away from home.

This one is for everyone wanting to learn groundwork.

Please get in touch with any enquiries, for more info or to book on here or Kay on 07411046795

Spectators welcome £10

Obstacles this morning with a lovely group who all aced the course. Lots of progress seen today.
Proud trainer I have to say girls 🙌 Well done, beautiful rein backs and sideways 👌 Groundwork is transferring nicely. Horses are getting softer and humans are growing confidence!
I will introduce some control of pace clinics soon. Where we can take some focus to the transitions between obstacles and improve the halt to immobility cue 💪🤠 as well as leaving the halt responsive and obediently 😉 now some of you are advancing 💪

Then stage 2 was this afternoon 👩‍🎓🥰 more laughs, whilst learning 😉 of course, I hope.
The theory parts are helping us build awareness as to quite how many different factors, from us, our movement, way of doing something (even before contact or pressure) affect a horses perception.
So consistency from us is so important 🤠 self awareness
well done ladies, thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed working with you all 🙏

The last stage one course (for a little while) was this afternoon. We were lucky it didn’t rain 💪
I hope the students enjoyed their first course 🤠
I was pleased with their practical work and I am looking forward to seeing their confidence grow as they continue.
They all got the feel of the long rope, gathering it in and letting it out smoothly, really well 👏
I think this and aiding the horse from ourselves (subtle body cues) before changing the rope in anyway, are the hardest things to grasp in the beginning. I’m keen to hear what you guys might have found more challenging to grasp or apply when you first started the foundation groundwork 🤗

Big well done today ladies 🤠👏🐴

There are a couple of spaces on the Stage 2 course next Saturday 5th 1-4pm and
1 space on next Sunday 6th 10am-1pm Stage 3, if any students are wanting the next stage now, please get in touch touch to book.

It was our first Foal Handling course today and it was just awesome! 🐴

Thank you all for coming, I hope you enjoyed it and learnt something 🤠
A huge thank you to Helen Kaybrook Stud for the use of her beautiful horses, mare and foal.
This allowed us the opportunity to see live training and the methods I had explained in the classroom, demonstrated realistically. Putting the theory into practice. Not like with Master Perry who can’t let himself get anything wrong 😂
Pressure and the release of it, comes in so many forms for the horse. Not always physical. We must see and feel where the horses levels of such pressure are currently in order to work progressively easily. ☺️ a foal only knows instinct…

Thank you Helen, the horses, Rich for helping and the lovely students 🙏

Little bit late with the pics from last weeks obstacles clinic…
Super clinic with a big variety in the group, thank you all for coming.
I am very pleased with you all. First time for a couple of these horses being out in a clinic let alone the arena full of challenges. Great job guys 👌👏 Groundwork pays off 🐴

🐴💥 PLACES AVAILABLE 💥🐴

Stage One Groundwork Course for the humans.

Let’s get Training 💪🐴🤠

Have you seen the demos and want to know more?

Have you got a horse?

Would you like to be able to communicate with horses better?

The next Stage one is:
Sunday 29th September 1-4pm (limited spaces)
Sunday 27th October 1-4pm (limited spaces)

These courses have been structured for you to learn the foundation program in more depth. Not just the exercises in it but why we need them and how to establish them with our horses.

We will be covering our handling, body language, pressure, feel and our influence towards the horse.
Learning how to use this in training.

We will be using my horses for this, discussing the exercises as we go and learning in a safe relaxed environment how to instruct each move and then maintain them.

Whilst being able to ask questions and feel softness yourself with trained horses. Working on your techniques and gaining new skills and confidence in yourself and what you are doing!

You will have a chance to put some of these exercises into a pattern and feel how they all come together, transitions from the ground if you like.

As well as the theory behind these methods, this will be covered inside.

These courses are all about YOU!
You are the leaders 🤠🐴 of your herd!

All you need to bring is yourself!

All equipment and horses will be provided. £90 payable on booking - To book, please contact Kay - 07411046795

Other dates are available and if you would like to book something up in your own groups please message me for availability.

There will be continuation levels to follow after the foundation.

How to train a horse to bolt:

1- regularly lead him with a tight grip, especially on the same side. Resistance to the lead rope on a regular basis will make him feel both confined and worried, and also learn to use it for leverage to seek escape.

2- drive while the hand or lead line or lunge line is closed. This will ensure the horse goes forward into a block, and is forced to go up and away. It’s a very effective way to confuse a horse and bring up the fight or flight in him, and if you’re very effective, he’ll leave in a hurry

3- expose him to something he wasn’t prepared for, or ask him to do something from a place of mental worry, without giving him the skills to understand or accomplish it. Continue applying pressure, or not alleviating it, for best bolting effect.

4- work around or near folks who are not guiding their horse well, with horses who are disregulated. This will give your horse a worried energy to feed off of, and help create energy building to a bolt. Choosing not to support your horse but fighting his energy just to get along with the group will really seal the deal.

5- regularly be unaware of your own energy, your own handling of your tools and have conflicting aids between leg, seat and rein.

It’s not that hard to teach a horse to bolt, any body can do it ! Just follow a few simple steps and you’ll be well on your way to a confirmed bolter- with practice, they can choose it as their default behavior, and you won’t even have to try to create it. Practice makes perfect!

To drag on the lead rope
To not get in a trailer
And many more!
