when the weather isn't the best and the dog you're sitting isn't a fan of rain so you take him on a little coffee adventure instead. ☕

Cooper had so much fun exploring new areas and making friends with all the customers who were absolutely smitten by him (I mean, who could resist this face?).

and even though our total walking time to and from the cafe was only about 40mins he was totally pooped from all the new sniffs and experiences and had a really good nap in the afternoon.

🧠 What is Mental Stimulation?

mental stimulation and enrichment can really help when you've got a dog who doesn't care for rainy days and won't really enjoy walks in this weather. using their brains can make them just as (if not more) tired!

of course mental enrichment comes in a variety of different forms, you don't always have to take them on a fancy coffee date. 😉

training, sniffing games (e.g. find it), snuffle mats, cardboard boxes with scrunched up paper and treats, puzzle/slow feeders, kongs, lickimats - anything that gets your dog thinking, working towards a goal or processing new information.

it can really help if you know your dog's breed specific traits so you can cater the enrichment to their natural instincts (e.g. sniffing games for hunting breeds). 🐩 🐕

Holiday Notice!

Even with the best job in the world, breaks are still necessary so I will be taking a holiday from 23/12/23 until 7/01/24. 😊

we found a really good stick today; Loki refused to keep walking so he could lie in the rain and try to chomp it apart.

he didn't manage to chomp it apart but he was very proud of his work anyway. 13/10, would hire for stick quality assurance.

confession time - I totally have a whiteboard in my office space with all the regular dogs and cats I walk / visit / look after. (excluding Barry who lives with me and I see every day 😁)

I love taking pictures of them while we're out (I'm embarrassed to admit how many photos I have of pets that aren't mine - hint: it's a lot) and having their cute faces on my wall while I'm doing work at home is just a lovely reminder of why I do this job and why I enjoy it so much. 100% the best clients in the world.

each and every one of these dogs and cats is amazing in their own unique way, and I feel so privileged to work with and take care of them. 🥰

Loki loves his 1 hour one on one Walk & Plays. We explore the nearby parks and woods, play some ball, chew on some sticks (him, not me), and combine it all with exercise - what more do you need?

My Solo Walk & Plays offer a unique approach to dog walking - combining a walk with some mental stimulation and games. As an aspiring Dog Trainer I want to give every dog in my care the attention they need and deserve. If allowed, they will have lots of off lead time to run around, chase balls, socialise with other dogs, and more.

Solo Walk & Plays are a great alternative to group walks for any and all dogs, and can be especially useful for dogs who:
- have high energy needs
- need or enjoy mental stimulation or games during walkies
- are very people focused / love hogging all the attention
- are reactive or fearful of or around other dogs
- don't do well with strangers
- need some one on one time to learn leash manners or other small training
- and more!

Does your dog need a bit more exercise?

As an aspiring Dog Trainer I focus on One on One Walks in order to give each and every dog I walk my full attention. This allows me to engage them properly for the full hour so they can get the most out of the time.

In addition to walking in a nice, green space I will also incorporate physical and mental stimulation and / or play into their walks.

You can also rest assured that they will be supervised every second of the walk.
