Four young proto-gods came together to form what would be one of the most influential rock bands to ever come out of England, if not the entire world. We’re speaking, of course, of the Beatles. Did you know that today is Ugliest Dog Day? 🐶 This unique holiday originated in the 1970s as a way to celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of all dogs, regardless of their appearance.
Scooter is a seven-year-old Chinese Crested dog. His body is hairless, but he has a thin mane of spiky white hair on his head. His rear legs face backward, and his tongue hangs out of his mouth constantly. Scooter’s special looks won him the 2023 World’s Ugliest Dog contest.
The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been running for almost 50 years. It’s held in Petaluma, California as part of the Sonoma-Marin fair. The contest title may not sound very nice, but it isn’t at all about making fun of ugly dogs. Instead, the event celebrates unusual dogs. It’s also meant to encourage people to adopt dogs that need a loving home. 🐾

🐕‍🦺 Animals have been used in war throughout history, the Second World War being no exception. However training dogs to parachute was exceptional. During World War II, the 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion started an adventurous experiment as it prepared for D-Day: enlisting dogs into their ranks. As they prepared for D-Day and the fight against N**i Germany, they developed a new weapon: parachuting dogs. Paradogs were taught to get used to wartime conditions, like aircraft propellers and loud noises. They were also trained to identify the smell of explosives.

The dogs wore their own parachutes and were trained to jump after bones/treats. It would appear that they were not distressed by the experience and after a few practice jumps they would often exit the aircraft without coaxing.

Among these animals were three dogs – Ranee, Bing and Glenn. Bing survived the war and went on to be awarded the Dicken Medal, the Animals Victoria Cross. That was not the last honor for Bing’s service: When he died in 1955, the former paradog was buried in a cemetery of honor for animals northeast of London. Today, one can also find a true-to-life replica of this four-legged hero in the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Museum in Duxford. Sadly Glenn did not survive, he was killed along with his handler Emile Corteil on D-Day. Glenn is buried with his handler Emile Corteil in the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at Ranville. RUKKA HIKE RUNNING BELT & LEAD BLK/RED

A lightweight, almost unnoticeable running belt + lead combination. Designed to give extra comfort for both the dog and the runner. The adjustable belt is padded with neoprene. The material feels comfortable against the waist. Thanks to the special adjustment mechanism, the attachment hook of the leash stays in place on the front side of the runner’s waist. On the side of the belt, there are attachment loops either for accessories or for the leash when you want your dog to walk by your side. The elastic leash part of the running belt softens the sudden pulls by the dog providing extra comfort for both. It can temporarily be used as a normal lead when still in the city area on the way to nature trails. The control handle is handy when the dog needs to be kept close in challenging situations. The snap hook can be hidden under a soft neoprene tube. The cover tube protects the dog’s back from the snap hook and eliminates the hook’s clanging noises, which gives extra comfort for walking and running. Remember Angel the Belgian Malinois? The unlucky pooch was rescued from the back of a truck on its way to a slaughterhouse in Changhun, China, in 2015, before being rehomed by a dog-loving Brit. Angel had surgery in the Chinese capital Beijing before being flown to the UK by Rushton Dog Rescue.
