Why did I decide not to walk my dogs the day after we arrived home from holiday?

The answer is in the video 🙂

Bonfire night will soon be upon us. And for many dogs, this time of year is extremely traumatic.

The loud bangs and screeching sounds that they have no idea of what they are or where they are coming from, can be paralysing for some.

Watching them quite literally running for their lives (or so they believe) and being unable to ease their fear, for us dog owners can also be just as horrific.

But there are some things we can do in advance to help our dogs cope with situations like bonfire night.

As well as desensitizing our dogs to certain sounds we can also build their confidence, ease their anxiety and wear out their brain.

All these things will help prepare our dogs to be able to deal with extreme situations in a less traumatic way.

My Train Their Brain In 10 Ways Experience is the perfect program for this. It encourages your dog to engage their nature seeking mechanism resulting in amazing transformations.

This programme has already been used by so many dog owners and the results speak for themselves.

LOCKDOWN STRIKES AGAIN! 😔

Lockdown may have long finished but for some, the effects still live on today.

And that is true in the dog world too. 🐾

Everyone meet Whippet brothers Reuben and Yofi.

I had the pleasure of working with these two gorgeous boys yesterday, after their owner got in touch to ask for help with Reubens anxiety which has gotten so bad that his owners dream of having a dog has turned into a nightmare.

The same with any behaviour we had to trace Reubens anxiety back to the source and not just correct the outbursts and when we did this it became apparent that lockdown has paid a huge part!

Socialising a dog in the correct way is such an important part of the learning process, especially in the early part of their life.

This helps our dogs to be able to cope with all the different stimuli that they have around them that is created by everyday life by desensitizing them to sights sounds and smells.

Reuben was a lockdown puppy so unfortunately early socialisation didn't happen, therefore neither did the usual desensitization, creating fear based anxiety when the world opened up and all the stimulus the world has to offer was trust upon him. ☹️

To help Reuben cope with this, we put a training program in place to change the association of these stimuli to be a good thing and not a scary thing.

If you need help with behaviours that have been created from lockdown or with any other behavioural issues DM me and we can arrange a FREE consultation call.

Yesterday evening Vivienne Joy and I returned from a lovely 10 day holiday in Rhodes.

Today I decided not to walk my pack!

Can you tell me why I decided this?

(Because I was tired is not the correct answer 😂)

19/10/2024

I wrote a post not so long ago about making sure we pay our dogs high enough for the job we are asking them to do.

Not all dogs are food driven and may see higher value in toys, play or praise alone but for my pack of 4, it is all about the food when training.

I have a homemade super high value pate treat which we keep for our most challenges jobs (these are worth big 💰). And the best part is, that they are cheap and super easy to make.

WHO WOULD LIKE THE RECIPE?

Put a YES in the comments.

Animals don't always want to cooperate! 🫣

But don't let that stop you 💪

This post is inspired by a very personal experience I had recently.

As most of you know, I am now a certified Animal Communicator, as well as a certified Dog Behaviourist; so I have the pleasure of communicating with all animals 🥰 I've been very accurate and many receivers of this service have been emotional and moved.

On a recent occasion however, I was talking to two cats.

I always find communicating with cats a very different experience to with dogs, as generally they have more independent characters and I have to be a little more patient with them when I am inviting them to come speak with me.

In this instance it was no different, but I felt that the link I had was strong and I was confident that the information I was being given was clear for me to interpret.

But then the worst thing ever happened... the lovely owner could not take any of the information I relayed back to them! 😲

I WAS DEVASTATED! 😭

This had never happened to me before! How could I have not gotten anything right? Maybe I shouldn't be doing animal communication after all! 😢

And at that moment I was about to give up. I was going to throw everything I had learnt to one side. I was willing to turn my back on all my hard work and say I can't do this.

Then this voice of reason came into my head (otherwise known as my wife Vivienne Joy 😂).

"Just get yourself together and think logically for a minute! What do you tell your dog training clients when they have a bad training day?"

She was right! (She usually is 🫣)

Animals are living breathing things, with their own thoughts, feelings, personalities and strong wills and sometimes they choose to use them to, shall we say challenge us. 😆 But that doesn't mean we have failed.

We must remember that the reason we got our dogs (and other pets) in the first place was to have fun. Enjoy their individual personalities and face life's challenges together. We didn't decide to get them because we wanted a robot! 🤖

So, if you are having a day where your training hasn't gone quite according to plan, your dog has decided to forget every command they knew the day before, or listening to you just isn't on their to do list that day... Just remember we all have bad days. No matter what species we are! 🥴

There is always someone with a question about their dog !😁🐾🐕

It doesn't matter where we go, as soon as people find out what I do for a living, there is always a question they would like answered about their dog, and being on holiday in Greece has not made any difference in that! 😆

When having lunch a couple of days ago we started speaking to a lovely couple who were telling us about their dog who's recall isn't the best.

They told us of a story where their dog caught sight of something it founds particularly interesting and took off after it very enthusiastically at top speed.

Seeing this happen they too headed off in the same direction after the dog, shouting it's name and waving their arms anxiously trying to get the dog to stop.

Unfortunately the dog didn't stop until it was caught by a very disgruntled passerby who gave the owners a mouthful on how they should train their dog better.

In this instance, chasing the dog wasn't the best thing the owners could have done.

I would love to hear from you lovely lot, why this wasn't the best way to deal with this situation and what you think could have been a better course of action?

(Picture of my view today to make you all jealous 😂)

VERY HONEST POST ALERT!

As I'm sure the majority of you know, today is International Mental Health Day and I am also sure you have all read a million posts starting very similar to this one, but I urge you not to scroll past, because I believe this one is slightly different.

There are so many people in this world right now that are battling with their mental health. They are struggling with the simplist of daily tasks. Getting out of bed in the morning is the hardest thing for them to do and the night times are even worse. They are trying to go through life pretending they are "ok". Not wanting anyone to worry. Not wanting any questions asked. It is a battle that no one should have to fight; and not everyone wins.

I know this battle. I have lived it! I fought it! Thankfully I won it!

Right now I bet you are all thinking, " Emma why the hell are you telling us this?" But stick with me because it is all about to make sense!

My battle with mental health got a bad as it could possibly get, and one night when I believed I couldn't fight anymore, I tried to end my life! 😞 This decision would not only change my life forever, but also that of my family... and my dogs.

They did not leave my side for one second. They lived the whole ordeal with me and some of it, I am not even aware of. Eventually they had to physically be removed from me, so my life could be saved, and so I am able to be here feeling very vulnerable, but being completely honest with you all today.

My actions that night had a massive impact on my dogs behaviour. It made them anxious, fearful and very reliant on me. I saw them behaving in ways I had never witnessed before and had no idea how to change it. I felt confused, worried and a HUGE amount of guilt.

HAD I GIVEN MY DOGS THEIR OWN MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES! 😯

I had to find the answers.

So I researched. I found out as much information as I could about how our mental health issues and the actions we take, impact our dogs.

The more I read, the more I wanted to learn, until it was clear to me, this is what I need to be doing.

It was at that point I knew I had to become a dog behaviourist. I had to help these magnificent animals be understood. Be supported. Be eased of OUR trauma.

There is not a day that goes by that I am not truly grateful to my OG's fighting my battle with me. To pay it forward I now help your dogs fight theirs! 😊

Everyone meet Cassie 🐾

Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with this gorgeous little girl after her owner got in touch with me asking for some help.

Unfortunately Cassie had been showing signs of separation anxiety, so leaving her for even very short periods of time had become a huge ordeal for both Cassie and her owners.

But did you know that when a dog suffers from separation anxiety, it doesn't always mean that the dog believes that it can't survive without their owner. Sometimes it is because they believe the owner can't survive without them! And that is just what we discovered about Cassie.

I gave Cassie's owner exercises/games to do with her to not only build Cassie's confidence but also theirs too. By using these games along with the tools they need to bring her anxiety under threshold, moving forward Cassie will begin to realise that it isn't her job to look after her owner and she can just chill out and relax.

If your dog is having problems with separation anxiety like Cassie, or you need help with something else, DM me and we will get a free consultation call arranged. 😊

It probably won't surprise you to know there are a lot of conversations about dogs in our house and this morning was no different!

It started when my wife mentioned that on her way home from her morning swim she had seen someone walking their dog in the pouring rain, but the dog looked nun too happy be out on that walk!

Me: You do know how loud pouring rain sounds to dogs don't you?

Viv: No!

Me: Imagine having a bucket on your head and standing under a shower with it turned on full.

Viv: Wow. It would never have crossed my mind that they would be experiencing it differently to us!

Someone told me this bit of information way before I became a behavioural trainer, and anyone that knows me knows that this is the kind of information I am always going to try (although I used a washing up bowl because I didn't have a bucket 😂), and let me tell you the sound was horrendous!

So next time you are getting a little frustrated because your dog is refusing to go out in the rain to do their business when you ask them to. Try and be patient. Maybe accompany them outside. And imagine trying to have a wee in the shower with a bucket on your head! 😂🤣

P.s If you want to fully understand what our dogs experience, why not try the bucket experiment! 😆

LOOK WHO'S BIRTHDAY IT IS TODAY! 🥳

Today is our gorgeous Honey Bun's 10th Birthday (yes that is her proper name 😆)

Honey is our Bichon x Chinese Crested Hairless x Westie and her personality evidences a little of everyone of these breeds.

Honey came into my life at a estimated 6 months of age after being passed from home to home and not having the best start to life.

The moment I set eyes on her, I was in love (even though she looked like a little gremlin with no fur apart from on her head and tail 😕) and the feeling was mutual because she has been my four legged shadow ever since.

Her loyalty to her Mummies is undeniable but which one of us she loves the most depends on which one is offering her the fluffiest blanket at the time! 😂🤣

Happy Birthday Baby Girl ###

Do you ever wonder what your animals are thinking?

Why they behave in a certain way?

If they are happy? 😀

Or if they are sad? 😔

Do you have an animal that has passed that you are desperate to connect with, to ask that last question you never got the time to find out the answer to?

I can help you do just this!

I am a certified Animal Communicator. This means I have the ability to connect with animals on an energetic level enabling me to speak to both those that are still on this earth plane and those that have passed over.

Energy is everywhere and contained in everything. This is how we get instinctive feelings about things. How we can sense if we have just walked in on a argument or how we get those gut feeling that something huge is about to happen.

This is also how animals of all different species are able to communicate with eachother without words.

Because energy is contained in everything I am able to connect with animals both past and present by looking at a photo of them, acting as that missing link in the translation path between humans and animals to deliver messages, ask questions and in some cases ease the grieving process.

All you have to do is send me a picture of your beloved animal, along with any questions you would like answered and I will send your message back to you by voice note.

This service is offered at the ridiculously low price of £65 per animal.

BUT right now as a special offer if you book and pay before the end of November, you can save £20 and get your reading for just £45 per animal! 😲

Put YES in the comments if you are interested and I will DM you more details.
