Are you rewarding calmerness or stillness? 🤔

One of the most important things to master in dog training is timing. If you get this just slightly out it could be the difference between you reinforcing a behaviour you dont want instead of a behaviour you do want.

And this has never been more true than when it comes to reinforcing calmness.

Calmness is an emotion, and that in itself is not a visual action that can be reinforce so we have to look for the visual behaviours (the by product if you like) that are shown as a result of calmness to indecate that our dog is in a calm state and those are the moments we reinforce.

Can you tell me what some of these signs are?

Helping your dog choose calmness as its go to behaviour will not only be better for you, but it will make training your dogs in other areas easier too.
A calm dog is always going to be a more focused dog.
You cant learn in chaos and this includes chaso inside the mind!

To help you achieve this I have put together an easy to follow online training programme. It takes just minutes out of your day, it is simple to follow, very affordable and your dog will love it.

You can find it along with my other online training programs on my website. (Link below)

If you have any question abouts this or would like help with anything relating to your dogs behaviour DM me.

ASKING FOR EVERYONE'S HELP 🙏🙏

As most of you will know, I am a certified Animal Communicator. I feel very privileged to be able to do this and love every second of it.

Recently, a gorgeous dog locally to us has unfortunately gone missing. His owners and volunteers are searching tirelessly to get him home safe and sound.

For some reason when I saw his picture, I felt this massive pull towards him and just knew I had to use my ability to try and connect with him and do what I could to assist in the surch for him.

The gorgeous Pippin is trying his he's hardest to give me all the information he can but unfortunately he is getting very weak and it's becoming more difficult to get a solid connection.

So this is where i'm asking for your help.

Please, could you just take a couple of minutes to focus on Pippins picture and send out strength and healing so this beautiful boy can keep fighting until we can reunite him with his owner again.
💙💙💙

THANK YOU

A short while back, I had the absolute pleasure of working in person with the lovely Hayley Perkins and her 2 gorgeous dobermans, Ernie and Laurel.

This is what Hayley had to say about her time working with me.

Earlier this week, I asked you lovely lot, why you think I commonly advise clients to stop walking their dog for a short period of time?

You gave me some brilliant answers.

But the answer is, there are a few reasons why I advice clients to do this, and all are as important as eachother on the road to success.

1. To give the dog time to decompress.
Very much like humans, if your dog is at threshold, (emotionally at breaking point) they are never going to make good choices.

2. To stop giving the dog the opportunities to practice the undesirable behaviours. (Dogs are more of what they practice)

3. To give both owner and dog the time to learn the skills they need to put into practice, without the pressures of outside destructions.

It's not uncommon for the dog's owners to look at me like I am completely crazy when I ask them to do this 😂, but the results speak for themselves.

Who has tried this with their dog? 🐕🐾

When I'm working with a client, it is not uncommon for me to advise them to not walk their dog for a short period of time.

Why do you think I would do this?

🤔 IS YOUR DOG FAILING YOU; OR ARE YOU FAILING YOUR DOG?

If I could have a pound for every time someone tells me that their dog isn't behaving how they want them to, then I would be a very rich lady.

But when I ask them the following question, the look of confusion that appears on their face is completely priceless!

📢 Have you explained to your dog how you want them to behave?

Just like humans, unless we tell our dogs how it is, how we want them to behave, they are always going to do the behaviour that make them feel the best, gets them the best thing to eat, the most attention, that which results in the highest value!

❎ We don't expect our children to automatically become the best versions of themselves. We help them become this.

✓ We teach them right from wrong.
✓ We teach them to read and write.
✓ We give them the skills and support they need to achieve their ultimate goals in life.

🤷 Yet, we expect our dogs to know exactly how they should behave, even though they don't even speak the same language as us.

And why?

Because most of the time, it's just too much effort for people. We're lazy! This message may seem blunt, but sometimes the truth can be tough to hear.

✓ In reality, dedicating just 10 minutes a day for simple training exercises with your dog, could quite simply be life changing and saving.

✓ You need to communicate to your dog in a language that they understand. Making clear the behaviour you want them to perform, (this is different for each family, not a one size fits all), so these become their go-to behaviours.

🤔 So next time your dog is "being naughty" ask yourself, are you teaching them the behaviours you want them to do, or are you failing them?

If you need help with dog behaviour, DM me, or visit my website and book a free consultation call.

✓ I have many ways you can work with me to suit you and your price point!

It's day one of the Train a Trick, Train Along. And todays trick is "The Spin".

Teaching our dogs tricks is a fantastic way of building their confidence. And when we build more confidence, we create more calmness.

So what are you waiting for?

Come train a trick with us! 😃🐶🐾

Hello you lovely lot and a happy New Year to you.

2025 is going to be an exciting one for Eds Dog Training with some exciting new things to tell you about very soon, so keep your 👀 peeled for news on those.

But right now I want to talk to you about creating calmness in your dog.

A lot of the time when we think about creating calmness in our dog we think about teaching them to do things like lay calmly on their bed or sit still in one position. We do this because most of us automatically think that when our dogs are showing behaviours like over excitement, or attention seeking it is because they don't know how to stay calm...
..and yes this is kind of correct.

But what if I told you there's another lawyer to this!

Surprisingly enough, lot of the time our dogs inability to stay in a calm state is due to their lack of confidence! 😯

And if we build our dog's confidence 9 times out of 10, we create a calmer dog.

This is the foundation layer to also changing many other behaviour issues that I see in dogs.

So in the next coming weeks I'm going to show you a few hints and tips to begin to build your dog's confidence to help create calmness and I want to invite as many of you to take this journey with me.

I would also like it if you could show your progress on this journey in this group, so we can all support each other along the way.

All of you that would like to take this journey with me, drop me a little thumbs up 👍 in the comments below and I look forward to seeing your progress.
