Farmer Fletch here to tell you about her day in the life doing the fabulous farm birthday parties!🥳

My days are always different at the farm! You may have seen me welcoming you in the gift shop, hanging out with the goats or even being an elf! I’m going to talk you through my favourite day at the farm! Birthday parties 🎉🥳🎂

I start off the day by setting the party room up, writing names on the birthday boards and preparing any animal food we will need for the party. I then get to go and greet the birthday boy or girl and ask them about their favourite animals so I can make their experience as special as possible!

Once their party guests have arrived, we start on our field walk. We feed lots of animals, sheep, goats, alpacas, keeping our hands nice and flat. I love helping children gain confidence and skill with the animals. It’s always wonderful to see them come out of their shell as the party goes on.

Then we get to my favourite part of the party! Animal handling. Especially if it’s baby goat season! I love seeing their little faces be just excited as me! I tell the children facts about each animal and answer any questions they might have. It’s so important that children learn how to handle animals safely, and it’s really special that I get to teach them this. I love how excited they all get! Particularly with the little mice who can be quite energetic!

Then we head to the party room for some lunch! Sometimes the parents like to play party games which I love getting involved in.

I’m so grateful that I get to teach the upcoming generations about the beauty of animals. It truly is magical ❤

Thank you for reading - I hope to see you soon🎉🎂

Farmer Chris is here to give you an insight into his day on a roadshow!🚜

On a roadshow I start my day off with the exciting part, finding out where I’m going, which can be anywhere from schools, to summer fairs and also what animals I’m bringing with me. Sometimes I even get to bring some goats along too!🐐

Then I load up all the animals and equipment we need for the day into our van (it’s like a big game of Tetris)👾

When we get to the roadshow I love setting up our stand because I basically get to build my own mini zoo and then I get to show people all of our lovely animals and tell them all about them too 🙂

My favourite part of a roadshow is getting to talk to loads of amzing people about our animals on the farm (especially the snakes since there my favourite)🐍

Then at the end of the day I pop all of the animals back in the van ready to go back to the farm for a good nights sleep after having a nice day out.😴

Thank you for reading my day in the life, and keep your eyes peeled for a white post farm roadshow… you might see me!

Today is the Falconers over at go active!

No day is ever the same within the falconry centre!

We always have our chores, cleaning the aviaries and doing all the necessary health checks on the birds but the most important role within the day is to ensure the birds are fed well. We weigh each bird to ensure its at optimal flying weight and its general health before preparing a high-quality diet.

You will often see us within the falconry centre flying the birds to and from perches and each other’s gloves and where needed up in the flying arena for essential training purposes. On weekends and school holidays we have the flying displays to prepare for and most people will recognise the golf buggy and trailer full of boxes making its way up to the flying field.

We also work together to deliver the vast array of experiences we offer from handling to flying and even photography sessions.

We undertake a lot of outreach work off site and all the birds need to be prepared for these activities which may be school visits, nature groups, experience sessions at various locations and our very own woodland for hawk walks.

We always love meeting all the public walking around the centre and talking to them about the different birds we have and their personalities.

As the end of the day draws near, we ensure the site is nice and clean and all aviaries are secured for overnight.

We are a small team at Go Active and we work together to provide a welcoming and inviting falconry centre and you will often see us busily wondering around with various birds on our gloves at all times of the day.

Thanks for seeing what we get up to!

Hello there, Farmer Craig here and like many at the farm, daily roles are pretty varied. My usual area is caring for the “exotic” species held at the farm, this is a broad group ranging from cockroaches to crocodiles.🐊

Though I am always happy to jump in wherever is needed, from guiding groups of visitors, working with the college students or heading out to local areas on visits.

First things first, opening up and checking the buildings for any overnight issues and ensuring all life support systems are working. Then sorting out morning feeds, boiling eggs, chopping veg and sorting out the creepy crawlies!🪲

Feeding around to species such as our armadillos, porcupines and fish in with Willow and the crocodiles, while also cleaning and changing water bowls, poo picking and health checks!☺️

After the first morning jobs are done it’s time to record the parameter checks, temperatures are important especially at this time of year, making sure the animals are warm enough to be active and digest their food, while also ensuring the ones skipping winter with their form of hibernation are cool enough to stay healthy and asleep!😴

Early afternoon is veg feeding, in summer I enjoy a little forage around the site looking for tasty plans for our tortoise, lizards and insects! Then it’s feeding the food time, making sure the live good such as locust, crickets and meal worms are healthy and full of goodness to be passed on to species that love to snack on them… E.g our lizards, tenrecs and even the crocodiles!

Throughout the day we carry out several public talks, our keeper talk is a particular favourite as I love having a natter about all kinds of interesting animals.🐐

Encounters can be throughout the day and are a nice change of pace for me, giving people the opportunity to have a close up and hands on interaction with some amazing species, just being inside the enclosure and sharing that experience with new people is always a pleasure☺️

Tasks change from season to season, such as over Summer the hive of honey bees need checking to ensure they’re all doing well or undertaking our butterfly and bee counting trail.🐝🦋

A favourite late summer task of mine is ensuring the bug hotels are ready for overwintering invertebrates!🐛🐜

Farmer Katie gets up to lots of exotics fun in her day-in-the-life!🦎

On the exotics team in a mornings we split up, and one of us checks on the animals outside, and one works in Reptiles of the World. In the reptile house we have to give the animals fresh water, check the temperatures of their houses, remove any poo or skin that’s been shed off and spray some of the enclosures to make them humid.🐍

Throughout the day we need to make sure the animals are fed and this could mean giving the lizards bugs to eat or giving the tortoises a lovely salad!🥗

We also need to make sure the animals are healthy so this may be picking them up and physically inspecting their bodies, or it could be getting them to pop on the scales to check the animals weight⚖️

To make the animals happy on the farm we give them enrichment. It is fun to hide bugs for black tree monitors. I enjoy taking pictures or videos of the animals so that they can be shared with you guys on socials!📸

A job that happens throughout the day is going to our talks. My favourite talk to do is the armadillo talk as they are my favourite animals on the farm, and I could talk about them for ages! I also love to do Sheep racing during the summer months🐑🏁🎤

I hope you all enjoyed hearing about my days at the farm!❤️

Farmer Nicki is here to tell you all about her day-in-the-life at the farm!🥰

My days working at the farm can vary so much as I have several roles!

I could be working in the office taking bookings, answering the phone or doing general office duties, or I may be on the entrance gate welcoming customers and restocking the shelves!📞

I could also be guiding school groups around the farm, taking our animals out on Roadshows to schools and local events, helping with Home Educator Days or helping the events team!🎪

You may have also seen me as the commentator for our wonderful Sheep Racing!🐑🎤

Regardless of what I am doing on any given day, I love every part of my job and especially working with everyone… the WPF team, the animals and the customers!🥰

Thanks for reading!

It’s Farmer Jeanie now, giving you an insight into her day-in-the-life!🚜

My day starts as soon as I get to the office, and I get ready for whatever is planned for the day!

You may see me in the morning running Little Farmers Club, our early years group which has animal interactions and craft activities all themed around our story of the week.📚

In the afternoon, I spend time planning lots of different educational activities. At the minute, I’m planning some activities for the Big Garden Birdwatch, our new workshops for school groups, and the Ranger Academies, which are coming up in the Easter half term!

I also spend time doing my favourite job (note the sarcasm😅) on the entire farm, checking the zoo signs are all okay and correct at each pen!

What I love about my job is that my days aren’t always like this. There are other days where I might be getting ready for a day of guiding a group around the farm, a day on the road doing one of our animal roadshows, or even heading off site to go to different zoos to share and swap ideas and meet their lovely animals!🐨
