Rugging Your Horse: What You Need to Know!

We know you want to keep your horse comfortable as the temperatures drop, but over-rugging can do more harm than good. Here’s why:

🌡️ Horses are Naturally Equipped: Horses can regulate their body temperature far better than we think! Their winter coats trap warm air close to their skin, creating natural insulation.

☀️ Risk of Overheating: Too many rugs or heavy blankets can cause overheating and sweating, leading to skin conditions and discomfort.

🐎 Movement Matters: A heavy rug can restrict movement, especially if it’s ill-fitting. This can lead to muscle stiffness and other issues.

🧐 Signs of Over-Rugging: Watch out for sweating under the rug, restlessness, or damp patches on their coat.

✅ The Key? Balance: Always check the weather, feel your horse’s body temperature (behind the ears or under the rug), and adjust accordingly.
