Maia came to see us for the morning for her senior screening tests as part of her Distinguished Cat Members Club. At Kingsclere Vets we offer 3 options for your cat’s Members’ Club, which are tailored to your pet’s age and their requirements. They follow their life stages and include tests recommended by the isfm guidelines, on top of their routine vaccinations & parasite prevention treatments. We call them Curious, Wise & Distinguished, to reflect the cudos our older cat’s deserve 😎For cats over 7 years, it is important to start actively looking for conditions such as diabetes, declining kidney function, high blood pressure and hyperthyroidism, as cats often hide signs of these diseases until they are in their later stages. Typically, these cats are still youthful and playful, so it can come as a surprise when we suggest testing for what we would usually consider “older cat problems”. For example, it is estimated that up to 50% of cats will be suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease by the time they’re 15, but if caught earlier we can slow the progression down. To do this, we welcome them to our cattery for a half day, where we take some blood pressure measurements, and a urine & blood sample. We make their stay as stress free as possible, giving them lots of fuss, lunch time snacks, and a calming cattery environment for them to relax in. 🐱🌟
Here is 9-year-old Barley (who has never needed a dental!) and 1-year-old Winnie! Both of these lovely Labradors have been trained to enjoy their teeth brushing routines, we know this isn’t the case for all of our patients (cats and dogs!) so here are some alternatives when teeth brushing isn’t an option:
🦷 Dental chews - vegetable based versions are a great low-calorie choice!
🦷 Mouth washes or water additives - these work by inhibiting plaque forming bacteria.
🦷 Dental diets - scientifically designed to reduce plaque and tartar formation via manual exfoliation of tooth surfaces.
🦷 Food supplements or toppers - usually in powder form and are designed to soften tartar.
Our lovely nurses Hannah and Bethan are happy to discuss the best options for your pets dental health with you if you have any queries or need any tips! 🤎
We always hoped our cozy and homely interior style would help patients feel relaxed during their visits; I think it’s safe to say Jake gives his approval! Here he is enjoying a nap behind our reception desk with his lovely sister Saffy 💤
A heartwarming first week filled with kisses, cuddles, and the joy of discovering our patients' adorable tricks! We’re so excited to meet you all and see the Kingsclere family grow 🐾
We have been working hard this week creating relaxing and thought out consult rooms to create safe, calming spaces to see you and your pets! Remember, our open day is TOMORROW 18th December 3-9pm, come down, meet the team, walk round the surgery and enjoy some festive refreshments 🐶🍷
