This is Tim who came in to us having got his leg caught in some wire sustaining a very large wound! (Don’t scroll to the last photo if you are squeamish! 🩸 ) the wound was sutured and then Tim came in to see the team twice a week for bandage changes. He has been a star patient and the wound is now fully healed and he is back working sheep again 🐑
Little Paulo came in for a tooth removal with our vet Mateus and brought a friend in for moral support during his treatment 🐴
Cat Microchipping 🐈⬛ 🐈
From the 10th June 2024 it will become law to have your cats microchipped and their details registered to a database or you could face fines of up to £500! If your cat isn’t currently microchipped we can get this done for you so give our team a call to get booked in. 🐱 🐈⬛ 🐈
Hopefully you’ve seen our latest newsletter article highlighting the very frustrating condition that is Sweet Itch in horses, and the success we’ve had with a vaccine trialled on a group of itchy equine patients last year. Several people have contacted us about it which is great, but we reckon there might be a few more horses that could benefit from this vaccine. So if you have a horse/pony that is usually itchy (or know of one), please contact us ASAP to chat about it and be added to our order list. The vaccine is imported from Germany, so we want to ensure we have enough doses for everyone interested. Our aim to put an order through by the end of the week.
Bramble came in to us this week as she had torn a claw. Here she is before her sedation keeping cosy, during the procedure with vet Niamh removing the broken claw and then vet nurse Gabby putting on a bandage 🩹 we hope bramble is feeling better again soon she was very brave! 🐶
✨Equine Health Week 2024✨
British Equestrian is running a campaign this week (22nd-28th of January) on equine wellness and wellbeing. They have teamed up with experts in the equestrian industry to produce a podcast series covering several topics including lameness, behaviour, weight management/nutrition, infectious diseases, and many more. We encourage anyone involved with horses to look at some of the content created for this campaign. Whether you interact with horses occasionally at a centre, own a horse or run a busy yard, everyone plays a role in equine health and welfare.

Apollo 13 has nothing on this big boy! 🚀 Apollo came to see our vet Niamh this week for a health check and weighing in at 9.5kg he’s the biggest cat we have seen in a while!
🎉A huge thank you to everyone who donated to Children in Need! Chris raised a whopping £690 via our Just Giving page.
Chris (and the team) are pleased to announce he’s back in trousers now, suitably dressed for the weather! 🎉
Please note we will be running a limited service today from 12pm-6pm due to having no electricity.
Normal service will resume tomorrow.

We are here to help should your pets be fearful over fireworks night to make the whole experience less stressful for you and your pet
Mateus gained a little assistant this afternoon when visiting Elmo for his vaccinations. Funky is only a few weeks old, but this yard kitten is full of character and personality! We reckon the face licks were a sign for a good job 😄😋
🎁🥳Happy 12th birthday Dolly! Two weeks ago this little queen had major surgery to remove a huge sarcoma ➡️ (not for the squeamish!) and her spleen. Thanks to the team, she made it to see another birthday 🎈 🎉
Did you know we try our best to be as sustainable as we can be?!
Here are a few things we do at the practice:
- recycling all that we can from cardboard and plastics
- beco coconut bowls for all our patients (they eventually break down!)
- eco-friendly cat litter
- our syringes are 30% recycled plastic
- reusable gowns and masks
- zone visits to reduce our milage
- we use ecosia search engine so each search a tree is pledged to be planted!
AND even more exciting (for us anyway!)
We have gotten a brand new autoclave (this sterilises all our equipment so it is squeaky clean!) that also has a water distiller so we can now distil our own water instead of buying it in big plastic bottles! Wahoo!
Dr Dumpling and Mateus have been out visiting Marco for laser treatment on his surgical wound after having colic surgery
Sparky is all ready for the hot weather this week! She’s looking hot to trot ☀️
We’re very sorry to announce that we have sadly had a deceased cat brought in to us. He is a male entire ginger cat with white markings, approximately 3 years old. He does not have a microchip. He was found in the East Woodhay area. Please give us a call if you might know who his family is.
We have had 2 little rats in for mass removals with our vets, they were both very well behaved and even had little buster collars post op!
Following on from yesterday and our new fantastic laser treatments Advantages of laser surgery
- Reduced bleeding and pain: as the laser cuts through tissue, it cauterises blood vessels
and seals the nerve endings.
- Reduced risk of tumour spreading during tumour removal: heat energy from the
laser vaporises tumour cells.
- Very quick and precise: a bloodless surgical field enables us to work faster thus
reducing sedation/anaesthesia time.
- Reduced infection and inflammation: heat from the laser sterilises the surgical site as
well as improves healing.
- Faster recovery and good client satisfaction: return work and exercise is quicker, and
studies have shown that tumour remission rates are much higher than other common treatment options e.g. chemotherapy creams. Please give us a call if you would like to find out more or get a skin mass assessed for laser surgery
We are proud to announce that we can now offer LASER SURGERY to our patients at Coach House Vets!
Laser surgery has been growing in popularity over the past decades as a safe and reliable surgical procedure. It is most commonly used to remove skin tumours such as sarcoids and melanomas in horses, but it can also be fit through an endoscope and used for some airway surgery. There’s also many applications for small animals, so we are very excited to be able to modernise and improve our service with this equipment.
Today is Jess’s last day with us before she heads off to do veterinary nursing at university - we will miss her!
If you ever thought your dog looked silly wearing the cone of shame, don’t worry - our team look sillier when making them 🙃
Today Mateus visited Porky who is the grand old age of 45! He is doing very well and enjoying his retirement having taught many children to ride 🐴
We love hearing from you all so if you a spare moment please pop onto review us!
In 2021, we won the Best in Berkshire due to all of your lovely and kind words.
Can we make it happen again this year?! We hope so!😀
Independent Vet Reviews. 88 verified reviews from practice clients. Our hearts stopped when our dog ran out in front of a van. We scooped him up and phoned the Coach House Vets and they immediately found time to see us. They rushed him in to be looked over and the staff made sure we knew what was ha...
Today was Mateus’ dog Dumplings birthday so we had a little celebration for her with a doggy banana cake. She is 3 today

🎉Amber and Tara are jumping for joy!🎉 HUGE congratulations to both of them as after nearly 5 years of hard work and determination, they passed their exams and are fully qualified Registered Vet Nurses!!! We’re so proud to have two such amazing RVN in our wonderful team 🥳🎉🏆👏
Super fascinating to use our state of the art endoscope to retrieve this large blade of grass. It had made it's way down to the bifurcation of the trachea - as far as it could get before it entered the lungs. Well done to our Vet Chloe and Vet Nurses - Tara and Beth
🐴Today we had our new endoscope out, checking the airway of this handsome equine chap. He's been showing respiratory signs during exercise, on the video you can see his larynx in action. 👀 Endoscopy is an invaluable tool in the investigation of respiratory disease. We are very lucky to have this top of the range scope to offer our clients. If you have any concerns about your horses' breathing - give our friendly team a call 📞
Lincoln was a rescue puppy who came from abroad after a rough start, but he has certainly landed on his feet with his new family! Lincoln came in last week for his patella (knee) to be operated on. His knee cap kept 'popping' out causing him pain and discomfort :-( This is Lincoln 2 days post surgery receiving his laser treatment to help improve his speed of healing. You can see how chilled and relaxed he is here with all the fuss and cuddles! #CharityTuesdays
Happy Friday!! Happy nurses = happy patients! #veterinarynursingawarenessmonth #waggytails
