Assisting mobility and flexibility
Decreasing pain and relieving discomfort
Speeding recovery time after surgery
and slowing degenerative processes, to name a few.

Amazing work from Millie 👏🏼

A huge good luck to all at Crufts this year! A particular shout out to the handsome Baxter and Levi, who are both showing this weekend. They’ve been attending Hydro for fitness sessions to help increase and tone their muscle development to help them look their best. They’re such lovely dogs, we wish them and their owners the best of luck 🥇

Do you think your dog is in pain or is their behaviour just not right? Get in touch to find out how we can help your dog. Book a Physiotherapy appointment for just £75 for a full assessment with our ACPAT Physiotherapist.

Benefits of a Physiotherapy Assessment -
Lameness is a common health and welfare concern within the canine population and accurate assessment is critical for successful treatment and rehabilitation. A fundamental part of any lameness assessment or gait analysis allows the Physiotherapist to identify the presence of any gait abnormalities and determine the nature and severity of it and determine the efficacy of attempts to localise or treat the lameness.

This involves a clinical assessment to identify any musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiorespiratory and/or bio mechanical dysfunction that could potentially limit optimal function and performance.

Following assessment, a treatment plan is determined consisting of evidence-based interventions including manual therapy, electrotherapy, exercise therapy, education and advice to facilitate optimal rehabilitation.

Within human and veterinary medicine, Physiotherapists are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, this ensures a holistic approach to patient care that aims to optimise patient well-being and outcome.

By a Vet giving consent for the treatment of an animal by a suitably qualified and regulated physiotherapist, Vets allow their patients to receive potentially life-changing intervention by a highly skilled clinician.

Who's behind door number 24... Basil!

Basil is a 7-year-old Yorkshire Terrier cross who started hydrotherapy in August after a diagnosis of hip dysplasia. He was rescued at 3 years old and so his medical history and breeding is unknown, but his owner found his exercise tolerance dramatically reduced from 1 hour off lead to just 10 minutes and noticed he would frequently sit down. He had a 1.5cm muscle imbalance with his right hind being in deficit. We therefore advised weekly hydrotherapy to regain his muscle development and recommended weight loss from 11.5kg down to 9kg ideal to help reduce the unnecessary weight bearing on his joints. After just the first session, his owners saw a dramatic improvement to his weight bearing. We will continue to assist his hindlimb movement to ensure he is walking with an equal gait in the treadmill, so he builds the correct muscles to support him on land.

Who's behind door number 23... Kobe!

Kobe is a 1 year old Pug x Frenchie who was rescued from The Dogs Trust last year. Kobe tolerates his sessions, it's not his favourite activity (he'd probably rather be napping!) but he certainly loves his zoomies post work out! His owner used to be a hydrotherapist with us, so understands the benefits of hydrotherapy and started bringing him for fitness swims to keep his muscles well developed and reduce the likelihood of joints problems later down the line.

Who's behind door number 22... Bruce!

Bruce is a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel with weakness to his hind. From a puppy, he has had on/off periods of lameness and some behavioural concerns, leading the owner to believe he may be in discomfort. He has just started his sessions with us and needs hindlimb assistance to improve his stifle flexion and hip extension. We aim to see an improvement in his muscle development but also some improvements to his behaviour if his discomfort reduces.

Who's behind door number 21... Tricki!

Tricki is an 11-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who attended hydrotherapy due to hindlimb ataxia initially. He had severe muscle hypotrophy to his hind and as a result became significantly uncoordinated at home. After some treatment, his owners decided to take him to Southern Counties for an MRI to get more of a diagnosis to best aid his treatment plan. They discovered the presence of multifocal intervertebral disc degeneration and disc protrusions at T12-T13 and T13-L1 and also multifocal syringomyelia and hydromyelia affecting the cervical spinal cord. The whole multi-disciplinary team were then able to update his treatment to achieve the best results and help improve his quality of life.
