🖐🏼 We have been to a massage and mobilisations CPD (continued professional development) event this weekend run by Liz Tyrell-Asprey from IAAT. We were practising our massage techniques and learning how to mobilise the joints of the body from the spine to the toes.

Massage is utilised as part of a physiotherapy plan as provides many benefits:

🐾 Improves blood flow to the area

🐾 Reduce pain

🐾 Alleviate stress

🐾 Relax tight are sore muscles

🐾 Improve flexibility

💥FIREWORKS 💥
Can be very scary for our furry friends but here are a few tips to try and help.

🐾 Walk your dog in the day. Exercise will provide a release for mental anxieties, make sure it’s a nice ‘sniffy walk’ to let them de-stress.

🐾Avoid nighttime walks as this is when fireworks are more likely. Ensure you and your dog are back safely inside before dark.

🐾Build a den - make a safe place for your dog. This can be their crate but you can add extra blankets to provide more security and to reduce noise further. This safe place can also be sprayed with pheromones such as adaptil or pet remedy a calming scent. Ideally this safe place should be introduced long before firework season starts.

🐾Radio and TV - try to behave normally for your pet to help them to feel safe. Having some kind of noise playing in the house may also help to muffle the fireworks slightly.

🐾Enrichment - this can be snuffle matts, kongs or safe chews. This will help your pet de-stress and provide alternative mental stimulation. These can be introduced in the evening before fireworks have begun.

🐾Ask your vet - the veterinary team can provide behavioural advice to help prep you and your dog for firework season. Veterinary surgeons may also be able to prescribe medication to help with noise anxieties.

Just remember preparation is key, it’s a lot harder to help a dog who is frightened than trying to put steps in place to reduce the anxiety early on.

🐾Canine Fitness 🐾
It’s not just just for athletes. We think fitness sessions are important so your pets can be at their peak fitness for everyday adventures. Bee has completed a 9.5km hike in the lakes this weekend. Fitness sessions can help prevent stiffness and keep her body strong!

Muscles Mondays! 💪🏼
Introducing a fun little informative post. Each week we shall be talking about a different muscle.
Each one has its own role but also works as a team to allow movement. Understanding the muscles can teach us how to condition and grow any which are showing weakness 💪🏼
