👅🐾MEET BENTLEY🐾👅

We had this sweet boy come and see us. His owner signed him up to our Puppy Package to get him off to the best start.

Bentley is a super pup and has an interesting set of genetics behind him. He is a Labrador x Mali x Staffy.

He is only 18 weeks old but is a strong lad and is a headstrong boy. Thankfully, he has a super food drive, which makes training a lot easier.

His owner did have him on a harness, so we have swapped that out for a flat collar as a harness will only allow him to pull easier and doesn't allow his owner to communicate anything to him.

We started teaching him reward markers and how to increase engagement.

Next, we taught him a leave command as he wanted to eat everything he could, which would be dangerous if he got something he shouldn't.

We then worked on teaching him a heel command and combined this with leash pressure so he understood where he should be walking.

He picked this up really quickly and was walking next to his owner on a loose leash in no time at all.

During the session, we also covered how to raise him to be a nice, confident dog.

Looking forward to the next one!

🐶🐕MEET HUGO🐕🐶

We made a home visit to see this big lad. His owner got in touch with us for help with reactivity towards people and dogs.

When we first entered the home, Hugo was barking and desperate to get over. This was purely out of over excitement. He does exactly the same outside, except he will launch towards people.

Reactivity isn't about a dog being aggressive it's them reacting to something. Hugo gets too excited when he sees people and dogs so gets frustrated on the lead as he can't get to them.

Hugo was pulling his owner from the minute he got out the door and didn't pay any attention, so we started the session off by getting him to walk at heel.

He picked this up pretty quickly and was walking miles better in minutes. Of course, it isn't "fixed" as training requires multiple repetitions and practising in different areas.

We then worked on his reactivity towards dogs and taught him how to disengage and not launch towards other dogs.

These guys have signed up to a package so we can continue the good work.

🖤🤎MEET WINSTON🖤🤎

We had this stunning boy come and see us for help with loose leash walking, stealing items around the home, and dog reactivity.

Winston is a young male Rottweiler, and like most, he was full of himself. He is very friendly towards people and dogs but doesn't have an off switch around them.

When we first saw him, he was pulling his owners, mouthing out of excitement, and then he would pull towards other dogs.

We got to work teaching him leash pressure, working on his engagement, and reintroducing reward markers as he did have a basic knowledge of these.

Once we had him walking nicely, we got our boy out to teach him how to break his fixation and ignore the other dog. Like most Rotties, he can be head strong and persistent, but he did get it by the end.

This will, of course, need continued work to really engrain the behaviour we want.

We finished off by taking him around other novel dogs, Winston spat his dummy out a couple of times as he didn't want to be told what to do but accepted the alternative and relaxed.

During the session, we also covered what to do around the home and how to increase his obedience.

🐺🐶MEET RAINER🐶🐺

We had this young boy come and see us for help with loose leash walking and dog reactivity.

Rainer is essentially just a big pup. He's only 7 months old, but his owner was struggling to walk him as he would bark at other dogs and occasionally people.

There is nothing aggressive behind his behaviour, but it can come across that way, especially when you have a large breed dog.

He loves people and dogs too much, so when he can't go and say hello, he gets frustrated and barks.

We got to work teaching him manners on the lead and how to engage with his owner.

Next, we got him out around our boy, and once he understood what he was supposed to do, he disengaged and looked to his owner for guidance.

As Rainer is so young, he hasn't practiced these behaviours for too long, so it won't be a huge task to nip it in the bud. No dog is too old as long, but the longer a dog has practiced a behaviour, the longer it takes to get rid of it.

These guys have signed up to a package, so we can really get the best out of him.

🐾🐕MEET FINLEY🐕🐾

We had this lovely lad come and see us for help with loose leash walking along with over excitement around people and dogs.

Finley is a very typical young Golden Retriever but would pull on his lead, and as he is so lovely, he's had a lot of attention from people, so he gets very excited when someone comes over.

We started off by working on engagement with his owner, whilst walking on a loose lead, how to check in, and look for permission before just going over to someone.

He picked this up in no time at all, so we got to work on his over excitement around dogs. Once he knew he couldn't just bound over, he settled quite quickly.

As always, we need to get the reps in and work on this in various areas around different people and dogs.

🐶👅MEET JAX👅🐶

We had this handsome boy come and see us for help with dog and people reactivity.

When Jax's owner first got him out, you could see he was a powerhouse. He was pulling his owner and would bark and lunge towards dogs and launch at people.

Around people, Jax is just over friendly, but as he's such a big lad, this can come across quite intimidating, so we first taught him some manners and how to greet people calmly.

Next, we looked at his loose leash walking and taught him how to walk nicely, engage with his owner, and listen to what was being asked. Jax was quite a persistent boy, but with practice, we had him walking nicely and checking in with his owner.

Jax is a boy who very much needs boundaries outside, but once we communicated what was and wasn't acceptable, he was looking really nice.

This will need to be fully proofed by exposure in various locations.

We finished the session off by looking at his dog reactivity and he was a bit mixed with this, he started off being a little unsure but once he realised the dog wasn't a threat he then became frustrated instead as he couldn't go over and say hello.

By breaking the fixation towards other dogs and keeping him walking nicely by his owner, he would then ignore the dogs around him.

These guys are on our Liberty Package, so we can continue working on this.

🐺🐶MEET KOBI🐶🐺

We had Kobi come and see us for help with loose leash walking, obedience, dog, and human reactivity.

Kobi is a Belgian Malinois x German Shepherd and carries the traits from both breeds, lots of drive, energy, vocal, and a little suspicious.

He would pull like a train on the lead and bark and lunge towards people and dogs. This was purely out of frustration and lack of stimulation.

We covered ways to get his brain working more and incorporated basic obedience training into this.

Next, we looked at his loose leash walking. He had previously been walked on a harness, so he had learnt to pull comfortably through his chest. We swapped out this for better equipment and taught him leash pressure, manners, and how to engage with his owners.

He picked this up nicely, so we looked at walking him around dogs and taught him how to disengage from dogs walking past. As we broke the fixation, we then stopped the lunging.

By the end of the session, he was walking nicely with his owner past numerous dogs.

These guys have signed up to our Liberty Package, so we can work on developing these skills further as 1 session just isn't enough for behavioural issues.

His owners would like to get him to a place where he can be off lead so we will get all the issues sorted and then work on freedom.

🐶🐕MEET ROCCO🐕🐶

We had this lovely lad come and see us for help with what appeared to be aggressive behaviour. He would snap at people if they stroked him and would launch towards other dogs.

When we first got him out, he didn't really pay his owner much attention. He would pull on his lead, and if someone went to stroke him, he would snap.

As I approached, you could see Rocco getting uncomfortable and clearly didn't want to be stroked. He didn't react, but he did back off and looked concerned.

Due to this, I didn't, of course, advance and stroke him, but I walked over and had a chat with his owner. Whilst standing there, you could see Rocco relax.

Too many people think that every dog wants to be fussed, and this is not the case.

We covered ways to ensure his owner could advocate for Rocco so he didn't feel the need to make people back off and also how to change his association to people.

Next, we looked at rewards, markers, and how to introduce this into his training.

We then worked on his loose leash walking, and he picked this up in no time. He quite quickly understood what the pressure from the leash meant.

Finally, we had him walking around the carpark past numerous dogs, and we were able to communicate to him that reacting wasn't acceptable and how to disengage from the dog and pay attention to his owner.

🐾🐕MEET LOKI🐕🐾

We made a home visit to see this sweet boy. His owners got in touch as they needed help with loose leash walking, resource guarding, and general obedience.

Loki, on the whole, is a lovely boy but lacks boundaries, and he had got to the point his owners were becoming afraid when he got a hold of something he shouldn't have as he would growl and then bite.

We first got Loki out and worked on his loose leash walking, and we also discovered he found dogs far too interesting as he would always have to stop and say hello to dogs as they passed so we also worked on teaching him to walk past dogs calmly whilst we were out.

During this, we also introduced reward markers with a reward to allow us to communicate what we wanted him to do.

Next, we looked at his resource guarding and it looks like this has stemmed from him stealing things he shouldn't have and like most people would, his owners would then try and take it off him which had caused Loki to think that these items were super valuable.

We worked on removing all conflict around these items and worked on introducing a drop/leave command so we could safely get the items back.

We also worked on teaching him these items weren't valuable, and we weren't going to play his game if he got hold of one.

By the end of the session, Loki was leaving the items alone, and when we deliberately dropped things on the floor, he was either leaving them or dropping them when asked.

🐶🐕MEET ODIN🐕🐶

Odin's owner booked him in to see us for help with loose leash walking, dog reactivity, and human reactivity.

When we first got him out, Odin was pulling and not paying a right lot of attention to his owner. He wasn't keen as I approached, but because I ignored him, he relaxed quite quickly.

We got our boy out to see what his reaction was towards dogs, but because our boy wasn't really paying him any attention, Odin wasn't bothered.

It is common for dogs to not want strange people or strange dogs getting in their face, which is exactly what has been happening with Odin. He is quite happy to be around people and dogs, providing they leave him alone.

Unfortunately, we don't live in a world where a lot of people understand this, and a lot have rude out of control dogs.

We got to work introducing rewards, markers, and teaching focus.

Next, we taught him leash pressure, and he had this nailed in no time at all. We started off with low distractions, and because he was doing so well, we brought in a little more distraction so his owner could handle him in day to day situations.

As he progresses, the level of distractions will need to be increased to fully proof the behaviour.

We finished the session off by walking around dogs that would normally be a trigger for him, and as he was under control, and by his owners side, he ignored them quite happily.

These guys have signed up to our Liberty Package, so we continue working and build his confidence, along with his owners.

🐕🐶MEET TOBI🐶🐕

We had a bit of a different session with this little fella. The lady who brought him wasn't actually his owner but is keen to learn more about dog behaviour and training.

She effectively borrowed Tobi as he struggled with reactivity around dogs and was disengaged.

We started the session off by looking at what was going on, and Tobi wasn't too bad at all. He just needs direction and to not be allowed to be an idiot.

We covered how and why we introduce a reward marker system. Tobi was very keen on this part as he has a decent food drive.

Next, we looked at loose leash walking and how to introduce leash pressure whilst tying that in with the reward markers.

Finally, we looked at his reactivity, and it wasn't that bad. By using leash pressure to break his fixation followed by a reward, he was more engaged and interested in his handler than the other dogs.

Great session and lots of fun really diving into the ins and outs of dog training.

🐕👅MEET THEO👅🐕

We had this handsome boy come and see us for help with dog reactivity.

His owner got in touch with us as Theo had become reactive to the odd dog.

We started off by having a good look at exactly what was going on, and the majority of it was due to frustration.

Next, we implemented more engagement, lead manners, reward markers, and reward.

When we look at any behaviour, it is important to have these foundations in so we can communicate to the dog what is and isn't acceptable.

We got him working around our boy, and by the end of the session, there were huge improvements.

They've signed up to our Liberty Package so we can continue working on everything.

🐺🐶MEET HEXI🐶🐺

We had this sweet girl come and see us. Her owner got in touch as she was struggling with Hexi's reactivity.

Hexi is still a young German Shepherd, but she unfortunately got attacked by another dog on her very first walk, which has led to intense fear based reactivity.

We got to work teaching her leash manners, engagement, and a reward system.

She absolutely smashed this and was working really nicely with her owner.

We then got our boy out to work around. We had to start off by first calming her head down, using focus and leash pressure to allow us to then start counterconditioning her response.

She picked this up really quickly and did fantastically. This will, of course, need to be practiced numerous times and around various dogs.

When dealing with fear, it is best to take it slow, use space, and work with counterconditioning.

🐒🐕MEET MONKEY🐕🐒

Monkey's owner got in touch with us for help with loose leash walking, obedience, and engagement.

Her owner has done a fantastic job with her already and got some really nice foundations in place, so this allowed us to advance quite quickly.

We covered ways to increase her focus whilst working with leash pressure to teach her the correct walking position.

Monkey got so easily distracted, but once we started teaching her how to ignore distractions, she was able to focus on her owner.

These guys have signed up to our puppy package so we can continue advancing once her owner has worked on what was covered in the session.

Great work with a lovely dog and proactive owner.

🐕🐶MEET TEDDY🐶🐕

We made a home visit to meet this cute guy. His owners got in touch as they needed help with reactivity and obedience.

Teddy would bark at anything he could see outside the house, bark at loud noises outside, and generally not listen to one of his owners.

We started the session off looking at the whole picture. He would react to everything out of nerve and was very codependant with one of his owners.

We introduced a reward marker system so we could countercondition the stimulus he was scared of and also went through ways to get him engaging more with one of his owners and not rely solely on the other.

Whilst a lot of people feel it cute when a dog just wants to be with you all the time, it can be unhealthy for the dog as it puts them in an anxious state when they are not around.

Next, we took Teddy outside and started counterconditioning his responses to noises, and by the end of the session, he was smashing it.

This will all take time as doing one session on this simply wouldn't be enough, but his owners are going to work hard and have signed up to our Liberty Package so we can continue working with them.

Awesome work guys!
