A few pointers here for new budgie owners and a reminder for other owners.
When you add to your flock it is really important to quarantine your new bird in a different room.
Your new bird may have underlying health issues that could affect your healthy bird.
Always quarantine for 4 weeks and treat with.
A two week course of sodium benzoate and a two week course of ronidazole before adding your new bird to your flock or pet budgie.

DANGERS

Lilies in a vase
Air fresheners
Scented candles
Deodorant and hairspray
Perfume and aftershave
Non stick saucepans with teflon
Cigarette smoke.
Paint
Nail polish and remover.

Cold drafts can also weaken your budgies immune system
Next to doors that will constantly be opened and closed during cold months, or by older or leaky windows is not a suitable place for your little one.

There are a number of safe cleaning products made especially for birds Here are some examples of safe and unsafe cleaning products

Unsafe cleaning examples:
Pine Sol
Scented disinfectants
Bleach
Toilet bowl cleaner
Tub and shower cleaners
Swiffer cleaning solutions and products
Fabreeze products

Safe cleaning examples:
P**p off
Mild dish soap

There are a number of foods that should never be consumed by your budgies.
Here are some of the most common ones to be careful with, or avoid all together!

Alcohol, coffee, and anything with carbonation or caffeine in it including pop/soda are obvious things that should be avoided.
The toxins in avocado, especially in the skin and pit, contain things that can cause heart failure among a host of other problems in birds.
Seeds or pits from any fruit but especially apples are also toxic
Chocolate is also something that we should avoid
Onions and Mushrooms are also toxic in large amounts.
Always feed food at room temperature never directly from the fridge as your budgies temperature will drop eating cold foods weakening their immune system.
Some of the most common poisonous plants include:
Cactus
Daffodil
Holly
Honeysuckle
Mistletoe
Ivy
Lillies
Poinsettia
Umbrella Plant
Safe Examples:
Aloe Vera
African Violets
Bamboo
Impatiens
Jade
Orchids
Roses
common safe branches include but are not limited to apple, cherry, and maple

Other Household Pets can never be fully trusted around your budgie unsupervised, no matter how much you think you can trust them. Dogs and cats even though domesticated are still animals with instincts, and given the opportunity they will naturally act on them
Always use constant supervision when your budgie is allowed around other pets in your home unless they are within the safety of a secure cage out of reach.

Do not buy fluffy fabric beds.
They do not need a bed
They sleep on a perch
They chew the fabric and can die of impactation of the crop
