Murton Equestrian Centre is a fully licensed, BHS approved, family run riding school in Tyne & Wear, owned by Derek & Leigh Belbin. Established in 1976, we pride ourselves in offering quality riding lessons in a safe and relaxed environment, for adults and children over 4 years. Situated a short drive from Whitle

y Bay and Newcastle Upon Tyne, we have ample parking and are perfectly placed for local transport links. We have a wide range of well-schooled horses and ponies to ride for all ages and standards. We have a large indoor and outdoor arena, which allows us to offer all year round riding. Plus an on site rider wear and tack shop for all your riding needs! As well as offering riding lessons, we are also one of the only riding schools in Tyne & Wear where pupils can also follow a comprehensive examination system with the Pony Club or with BHS Progressive Riding Tests/Challenge Awards. We also offer Unaffiliated Dressage and Showjumping competitions, perfect for first timers. The indoor and outdoor arenas are available to hire for horses and dog walking. They are all fully trained to offer riding instruction at all levels, including BHS Stages Training and Road Safety Training. We are licensed by North Tyneside Council. License number: 1600295AW. RIDING LESSONS FOR 4-13 YEAR OLDS

What happens in our Leadrein Group Riding Lessons ?

Our lessons teach children how to mount and dismount correctly. They learn how to ride in the correct position and give the pony the correct signals for stopping, starting and steering. Riders learn how to trot (rising and sitting) and negotiate ground poles or cones. This is all done at first with a ground leader for support (parents are encouraged to get involved. We are always working towards independent riding and this is encouraged gradually.

Beyond the riding itself there are many other benefits to our group leadrein lessons. The riders count various objects in the arena (such as cones), learn to recognise the letters around the arena and the colours of objects (such as poles). Riders identify various shapes as they ride them through school movements. They learn to work as a team with the other riders and enjoy the social aspect of the group experience.

We run 30 min group lessons for those age 4-13yrs on a Wednesday/Thursday/Saturday/Sunday. Our lessons are held in the outdoor arena and have a maximum number of riders in each session (4riders).

Single or block bookings are available, session is priced at £25 but discount available for block bookings.

This is the perfect treat for any pony mad child! Loan a pony days are suitable for children age 6+ and dates to suit all abilities. The children will get the chance to learn how to groom, tack up, feed, muck out and ride their favourite pony. 🐴

🐴 Loan a Pony Days In Christmas Holidays 🐴

Drop Off and Pick up session for Children aged 6 yrs and above.

They will spend the day learning about how to look after the ponies and a 1hr riding session is included! Perfect Christmas present for a pony mad child.

🤩 We are looking forward to the second half of term working with BHS Changing Lives Through Horses Programme. 🤩

The programme is specifically designed as an Alternative Education for those children and young people who may be struggling attending school on a regular basis. The programme follows a specific curriculum enabling participants to achieve certification, confidence and excel in a subject they love. Functional skills are embedded, as well as learning responsibility, health, well being, fitness, communication skills and a great work ethic. Riding daily under expert guidance from our coaches is an option which inspires commitment and the desire to achieve.
The intention is to always, where possible, to get children and young people back into formal education.
We welcome individual students or small groups on role from schools or colleges 7-25 years or those with an EOTAS (Education otherwise than at school). The children and young people may or may not have an EHCP.
The outcomes achieved have been phenomenal- this year we have capacity to do a little more. However places are limited to enable us to make a big difference, one person at a time!

We currently have space on a small group session Tuesday and Thursday 1pm-3pm. £80 per session.

🤩Final time for tomorrow, some changes are out of our control! 🤩

Please arrive approx 30mins before your time

You will be allowed a short warmup before your dressage in the outdoor arena. If you are jumping please proceed straight from the indoor arena to the far end of the outdoor arena where you will be able to jump a warm up fence before your round.

Results will be approx 1pm. Rosettes are given to 10th place and the riders placed 1st and 2nd will qualify for the championships.

Just like pets, wild animals, horses and farm animals may be affected by fireworks. Notify nearby farms and stables
if you are planning to use fireworks. Don’t let off fireworks if they’ll disturb wildlife habitats, or roosting bats and birds.

🌱 Did you know horses are designed to graze 15-17 hours a day. 🌱 Here are our girls giving an example of that! Watch how much they move around to find the grass and other vegetation. We re-create grazing when the horses come into their stables in the morning by supplying them with hay or haylage (preserved grass). Friends, forage and freedom 🐴💜 Have you encountered error code ‘5005 Horse Not Available’? It means there isn’t a horse available at the time/lesson for your height/weight/riding ability. It’s not a fault in the system, it’s actually the system being very clever. Sometimes we can have a little shuffle round but all our horses have lesson type/number limits. Whilst some of our horses are having a little bit of down time please try another time/day/lesson type. We don’t want to disappoint so please book as far in advance as you can.
