Murton Equestrian Centre is a fully licensed, BHS approved, family run riding school in Tyne & Wear, owned by Derek & Leigh Belbin. Established in 1976, we pride ourselves in offering quality riding lessons in a safe and relaxed environment, for adults and children over 4 years. Situated a short drive from Whitle

y Bay and Newcastle Upon Tyne, we have ample parking and are perfectly placed for local transport links. We have a wide range of well-schooled horses and ponies to ride for all ages and standards. We have a large indoor and outdoor arena, which allows us to offer all year round riding. Plus an on site rider wear and tack shop for all your riding needs! As well as offering riding lessons, we are also one of the only riding schools in Tyne & Wear where pupils can also follow a comprehensive examination system with the Pony Club or with BHS Progressive Riding Tests/Challenge Awards. We also offer Unaffiliated Dressage and Showjumping competitions, perfect for first timers. The indoor and outdoor arenas are available to hire for horses and dog walking. They are all fully trained to offer riding instruction at all levels, including BHS Stages Training and Road Safety Training. We are licensed by North Tyneside Council. License number: 1600295AW. Fully insured.

⭐️ Become a Riding School Assistant ⭐️

Minimum age for training is 13yrs

Assistants at Murton can take part in a variety of task which may include:
· Horse Health Care
· Grooming, Tacking up and pampering our horses and ponies.
· Assisting in lessons: leading ponies and side-walking with riders
· Helping with fundraising events: helping with raffles, tombolas, public collections etc
· Helping wash, plait and prepare horses for BHS Stage Exams
· Taking part in BHS Teach Exams as demo riders
· Have the opportunity to practice skills needed to launch their Equestrian Career

We welcome riding school assistants with time to give during the working day, in the evenings and weekends. You must complete the ‘BHS Riding School Assistant Award’ as an induction. All participants must complete this booklet and then book assistant sessions.

In return we offer you a worthwhile and rewarding opportunity to assist in a safe, fun environment with other like-minded people. This could also enhance your CV and your job opportunities.

If you are interested in this at our centre please book the BHS Teen Club on a Friday evening to start your induction and learn more about horses.

Gain the confidence and skills to ride safely on roads and when out and about. Know how to plan routes and prepare yourself and your horse to enjoy the countryside.

➡️How to ride in an enclosed arena with other riders
➡️How to ride with the reins in one hand
➡️Checks to make before setting off
➡️How to ask other road users to slow down or stop
➡️Riding out on a road
This award is a pre-requisite to the BHS Stage 1. The course is run one day (6hrs) and costs £75.

🌱 Did you know horses are designed to graze 15-17 hours a day. 🌱 Here are our girls giving an example of that! Watch how much they move around to find the grass and other vegetation. We re-create grazing when the horses come into their stables in the morning by supplying them with hay or haylage (preserved grass). We use small hole haynets to allow them to trickle feed throughout the day ☀️ #lovehorses #welfarefirst #grazing

Friends, forage and freedom 🐴💜 Have you encountered error code ‘5005 Horse Not Available’? It means there isn’t a horse available at the time/lesson for your height/weight/riding ability. It’s not a fault in the system, it’s actually the system being very clever. Sometimes we can have a little shuffle round but all our horses have lesson type/number limits. Whilst some of our horses are having a little bit of down time please try another time/day/lesson type. We don’t want to disappoint so please book as far in advance as you can.
