I am really saddened that in North East England there is a dog walking group that advocates the use of E collars in the training of dogs. This group has quite a large following of dog owners, and it is so sad that the group has such an influence on pet dog owners who are at times in desperate need of help with their pets. They flower up their terminology by suggesting an E collar is not a shock collar. An E collar is a shock collar!. Why would you want to hurt your beloved pet. Research has shown over and over again that using such aversive devices on our dogs causes more behavioural problems than they appear to resolve. Please, please if you are a dog owner who needs help with your dog, don’t be drawn into these often well written advertisements, that appear to offer you almost instant results for your dogs behavioural problems In exchange for delivering a quick shock. If you need help have a look for a trainer or behaviourist who has some sort of regulation . www.apdt.co.uk, www.apbc.co.uk or www.abtc.co.uk are great places to start.
The Animal Behaviour and Training Council sets and maintains standards of knowledge and practical skills needed to be an animal trainer, training instructor or animal behaviour therapist and maintains the national Register of appropriately assessed practitioners.
