Everybody meet Rocket! 🚀💚

Rocket is just over 1 year old and belongs to one of our student nurses Debbie.

He is with us today because we suspect he may have eaten some of his humans medication.

While he is under our care we will monitor his heart rate and blood pressure, along with feeding him charcoal.

This is used to absorb and bind the stomach contents and toxins so that hopefully it leaves his system.

He's being such a good boy!

Meet Blue the chocolate Labrador. 💙

Blue's owners contacted the practice after concerns that he was carrying a little extra weight for his age and size.

Blue was referred to a member of our nursing team for an assessment and follow up weight clinics to monitor his progress.

As Blue was only 7 months old when he started his weight journey, the main concern was the negative effect his extra weight could put on his growing bones and joints, putting him at higher risk of disease and osteoarthritis in later life.

A carefully formulated plan was put in place to monitor Blue's weight and help him lose the extra pounds, whilst still ensuring he was growing appropriately.

As you can see from the before and after photos, Blue has transformed from a chubby choccy into a handsome, fit and healthy adult labrador, thanks to the hard work and dedication from his owners along with the advice from our nurses.

Well done from all the team Blue, we are so proud of you! 👏

If you have any concerns regarding your pets weight and would like some advice, please don't hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team.

Mental Health Awareness Week 13th - 19th May 2024

This is an opportunity for the whole of the UK to come together to focus on getting good mental health.

The week aims to tackle stigma and help people understand and prioritise their own and others’ mental health.

This is a particularly important topic in the veterinary world as vets in the UK are three to four times more likely than the general population to die by su***de.

May Microchip Offer 📍🐶🐱

It’s Hip to Chip!!

Microchipping is a method of pet identification that involves a very small device (about the size of a
grain of rice) being implanted under your pet’s skin.

This chip is coded with a unique number that is registered in a database with your pet’s details.

If your pet goes missing and is found, they will be scanned and their microchip details will allow them
to be safely and quickly reunited with you!

Microchips are easy to implant, safe and effective and, unlike collars and tags, won’t fall off or cause
injury to your pet.

Since April 2016, it has been a legal requirement for all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales to be
microchipped if they are over 8 weeks of age.

From June 10th, 2024, it will be a legal requirement for all pet cats to be microchipped as well.

Microchipping can be done in a consultation with one of our nurses and costs £37.

However, in recognition of the upcoming legal requirement for cats, we would like to offer our
clients microchipping for £10 for the month of May!

This offer applies to dogs and cats. Please contact the practice to book your appointment and we
look forward to seeing you there!

We are "Do- NUTS" about neutering here at Newcastle Vets4Pets 🍩🍩🍩

Castration is an elective surgical procedure for male dogs. The procedure involves the complete removal of both testicles under a general anaesthetic. This is a day procedure that we can preform right here on site.

Castrating your dog can provide several health and behavioural benefits, including the elimination of the risk of testicular cancer and a reduction in the risk of prostate issues in later life. It can also reduce sexual aggression, territorial/inappropriate spraying or urine and other boisterous behaviours.

Castration can also be preformed on male cats and rabbits, and provides similar species specific health and behavioural benefits.

However, castration is not suitable for every pet, and there are lots of factors to consider before booking the procedure, such as their age, breed and temperament.

If you would like to know more, please book in a FREE pre neutering consultation with one of our nursing team who will be happy to guide you when making this decision.

Here's a photo of the lovely Loki at one of his post neutering checks with our nurse Keeley, how adorable is he? 💚

Beautiful Bella has lost two kilograms on a weight loss journey with Wakefield Vets4Pets – and owner Hayley says she's much more active, playful and affectionate as a result. "She just seems generally less grumpy as well – she probably felt how we do when we've overindulged!"

When Bella came in for her booster vaccination a year ago the team noted that she was overweight and would need to slim down to help her live a long and happy life. Since then the three-year-old house cat has been put on a special diet and she's now lost a third of her weight. Hayley said: "We're incredibly grateful to the team at Vets for Pets. They've given us some great advice and tips to keep the weight down. They are so approachable and we've never felt judged by them."

Head veterinary nurse Jess said: "Bella has been on her weight loss journey for over a year now and she's seen once a month for basically Waggy Weightwatchers as we call it. The owners have stuck with the plan very well and took note of everything we have told them, which is great. A 2kg loss is quite a substantial loss for a cat, so she's done really well."

01/10/2023

Ten-month-old Filemon is on the mend after he fell behind a wardrobe and fractured one of his front legs in three places.

He was taken to the specialist orthopaedic team at Vets4Pets Cross Hands in Llanelli by his owners Kasia and Andrzej where he had surgery to repair the bone with implants. The main recovery barriers for Filemon were possible nerve damage, and keeping him quiet long enough to give his bone and wound time to heal – which veterinary nurse Rebecca says is no easy task for a cat owner. She said: "Thankfully, with the help of his diligent owner and plenty of the right medication, Filemon is recovering well and has full range of motion in his leg."

Kasia said: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to the Vets for Pets team for doing an amazing job to get Filemon back on his four legs! After surgery Filemon was in a crate for six weeks which wasn't easy for him being such a young and playful kitten. It's now been two months since the surgery and he's recovering really well. He's enjoying himself again just like before the accident."

Meet Jimmy, thanks to his microchip, he was reunited with his family after 2 years!

In 2021, Jimmy was suspected to be involved in a road traffic accident in which his owners were told he didn't make it. After straying for 2 years, a member of the public brought him into Doncaster Vets4Pets where our team scanned him for a microchip. After a quick call to his owners, our team were able to reunite him with his owners. We do love a happy ending💚
