In all my time I've never spotted one in the wild, and here one is, just outside the back door!💀 #deathsheadhawkmoth What a beauty😍 I spotted her yesterday afternoon and I've been checking up hourly to see if she's moved/fed- but no success as of yet. The death's-head Hawkmoth is rare and only a handful make it over to the UK each autumn, it's the largest moth as of yet to appear in Britain 🖤 They only live around 6 weeks and unfortunately it looks like she's not going to survive for very long *any advice from anyone who deals with "live" moths would be great!😄 I put it in a dark space out of the daylight and out of the reach of predators next to some flowers for the nectar. She has an excellent habitat around her(allotments/fields etc) so if she's strong enough, it's the perfect location for her. It may be silly... but I also smeared a tiny bit of local honey mixed with water in a low dish because I know they feed off the honey that they retrieve from beehives. *I identified it as female but I could be wrong. #mothsuk #mothstudios #wylam #newcastleupontyne
