Thank you all for the support over my rubbish regionals. As ever, time to regroup and hatch a plan…..

Perhaps advanced medium isn’t our level, we’ve had a decent run but we are static. Time to push on with training and nail the PSG. I think we’ve created our own barrier with AM 98 as we get worse each time and that’s must be partly down to my head space.

Gold is very challenging for Bodhi, rising against professionals is tough. We return to silver at medium so we will focus on Home Nations, Forces Equine champs and push on with training.

At least it’s winter and we can have fun with some new music for them both!

It’s been a challenging work week and not the best prep for regionals but we head to Scotland tomorrow

A little boost to get us going, both boys selected to represent British Dressage - North & East Region and England at the Home Nations.

I’m going to embrace Becky Moody’s joy at being at the Olympics and copy Carl’s watermarkings. Must be a winning combo!

Out competing yesterday with a goal in mind

Secure some scores for Home Nations applications.

William hasn’t been out much as we’ve been focusing on training, but then he’s regressed and become less rideable in the arena. The plan was to aim for keeping him on side through the whole test and if issues arose, deal with them rather than trying to bluff my way through. Sheets show we did just that!

Bodhi was fab, disappointed with scores but they were on a par with the other competitors.

Home Nations applications in. Regional entries submitted.

Will post my tests with Wills with the sheets. Happy for comments 😄

For the love of all riding school Ponies and Horses

A small stab in the heart is what you feel when you put up the day’s riding list and you see riders sinking heavily in their shoulders when reading which horse they are assigned for the lesson. A small stab in the heart for that horse that for an hour will carry around a rider who has already decided that he does not like his horse. A small stab in the heart for the horse that did not choose the rider himself but still does his best, lesson after lesson.

Riding is a privilege and something you have chosen to do. If you chose to ride at a riding school, your instructor assumes that you actually want to learn how to ride. The instructor’s highest wish is that you get good at it.

Often there is a plan and a thought as to why you are assigned to that exact horse. Before you mount up next time, ask yourself “what can this horse teach me today?” All horses have something to give, a feeling or a new tool in the box.

The art is actually in being able to get a lazy horse to move forward, to get an uncertain horse to gain confidence, a naughty horse to focus or a tense horse to be released. It takes work. If you think a horse is boring, it’s more likely that you don’t ride the horse as well as you think! It’s not easy to be confronted with your own shortcomings, but it is in that very situation that you get the chance to truly grow as a rider.

The excuse that “it’s not my kind of horse” is actually a really bad excuse. A good rider can ride any kind of horse. A good rider has trained many hours on different types of horses to become a good rider. A good rider can find and manage the gold nuggets in every horse.

If we absolutely want to ride, it is our duty to strive to do it as best as possible, even if it’s only for fun. We owe it to every horse that carries us upon it’s back.

Copied and shared with love for all of our horses, ponies and riders 🐎❤🐎

🐴🐴🐴🐴**Attention all horse owners!**🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴

We’re receiving an increasing number of orders for Equest and Equest Pramox this summer. It’s important to understand why these wormers are not appropriate for use at this time of year, and why I won’t be prescribing them at this time of year.

What You Need to Know:

- Equest and Equest Pramox contain Moxidectin, which treats encysted redworm—larvae that burrow and hibernate in the colon wall.
- The larvae encyst in the cold months (late autumn/winter) and emerge in spring. This mass emergence can cause severe damage to the gut wall, potentially leading to the horse’s death.

Current Treatment Options:
- Fenbendazole (Panacur)
- Moxidectin (Equest and Equest Pramox)

Unfortunately, worm resistance to Fenbendazole already exists, and resistance to Moxidectin is rapidly developing.

The Risks of Resistance:

If resistance to Moxidectin increases, we may lose the ability to treat acute cyathostomosis, resulting in more horse fatalities. Hence, it’s **ABSOLUTELY VITAL** to use Moxidectin only during the **WINTER/COLD MONTHS**.

Important Guidelines:

- **Do not use Equest or Equest Pramox** on a new horse without knowing its worming history. These wormers are not for ‘clearing out’ horses.
- **Follow these practices** to maintain your horse’s health:

Our Recommendations:
1. Perform regular worm egg counts from spring through autumn.
2. Conduct tapeworm testing alongside worm egg counts.
3. ONLY worm based on a positive worm egg count.
4. Poo pick your pasturestwice a week.
5. Cross graze with other species (e.g., sheep and cattle) to help control worm populations.

Preventing Anthelmintic Resistance:

Preventing resistance to Moxidectin is crucial. Without new wormers on the horizon, we must preserve the effectiveness of existing treatments. This requires a collective effort from all horse owners.

Together, we can protect our horses and ensure effective treatments remain available. In the absence of appropriate dispensing, it is up to horse owners to remain educated to help protect the health of horses in the long term.
