Canine Vaccination News

In line with current World Small Animal Veterinary Association guidelines we are updating our vaccination protocols for dogs to include Lepto 4, replacing our current regime of Lepto 2 as this is no longer being manufactured. This covers additional strains of leptospirosis.

For puppies starting their vaccinations they will need two vaccinations 28 days apart with the second injection being given at 10 weeks of age at the earliest. Puppies can go for walks in public and socialise 3 weeks after this vaccination. To allow the earliest socialisation we encourage puppies to come for their first vaccination at 6 weeks old or as soon as possible after this.

Adult dogs will be welcomed to transition at the time of their annual booster vaccinations. They will receive a second vaccination FREE OF CHARGE 28 days after the first injection to provide full immunity against the additional strains.

We enjoyed meeting this beautiful pair of Cavapoo puppies at our South Shields practice.

Coco & Willow received their health check & 2nd puppy vaccination, which is a benefit of their Wellness Plan 💚💙

Cavapoos are highly affectionate dogs. They have a great love for cuddling and never miss an opportunity to express their affection to their human family. This is certainly true of Coco & Willow 💙💚

Microchipping your feline family is now mandatory‼️

A microchip is a tiny, computerized chip that's placed underneath your cat's skin, around the shoulder area. And the purpose of it is to be a form of identification should your cat get lost and wind up at the shelter or in our veterinary practice. Giving you peace of mind that your cat will find its way home 🏠

Introducing this week’s Puppy Party Students!

Suki 🐾 Lyle 🐾 Bilbo 🐾 Dolly 🐾 Thank you to the families of these beautiful puppies for coming along, to this week’s puppy socialisation party hosted by our RVN Laurie.

Socialising your new puppy is key to ensuring you have a happy, confident, and well-adjusted dog.

The idea behind socialisation is that you want to help your puppy become acclimated to all types of sights, sounds, & smells in a positive manner. Correct socialisation can prevent a puppy from being fearful of children or your doorbell, for example. It will help them develop into a well-mannered, happy companion for your family.

Puppy parties are small group classes, for puppy owners & puppies. The party is a great learning experience for your puppy and yourself.

Our Veterinary Nurse Laurie is on hand to demonstrate techniques to encourage calmness, how to read body language and teaching basic commands. Whilst, giving advice on topics including loo training, pet wellness, insurance to name but a few.

Pet Diabetes Month, which runs throughout the month of November, aims to increase pet owners awareness and understanding of the condition.

Signs of diabetes ⬇️

Clinical signs of diabetes mellitus can include increased urination, excessive thirst, & weight loss. If you notice any of these signs in your pet, contact your veterinary practice to arrange an appointment.

Treatment ⬇️

Diabetes can affect our dogs and cats, but it is manageable with good care, with most able to lead happy active lives. If your pet is diagnosed with diabetes, our veterinary surgeon will advise on medication and the appropriate diet.

We love our job! 💚💙

Thanks to our night nurse Linda! We got to meet her quintet of adorable working cocker spaniels 💙💚

The pups came in for their first puppy checkup, vaccination & microchip.

Veterinary surgeon Pieter & RVN Paula, certainly had their hand’s full.

Working cocker spaniels are known for being intelligent, loyal, and friendly, with a lot of energy & stamina.
They can make excellent family pets and are said to be people-oriented and love to have company.
