Puppy Time!

We were delighted to meet Gus & Astrid & Blue & Rosie, who attended our Gosforth Puppy Socialisation Party 🎉

The puppies and their humans had a fantastic time! The parties are host by our RVN Laurie.

Puppy parties are group meet-ups for puppy owners & puppies. It’s a great learning experience for your puppy and yourself. Giving the opportunity to learn, develop and adapt in a small, controlled environment prior to being exposed to the big, wide world!

Laurie covers many topics, it’s an opportunity for new puppy owners to ask any questions from health care to toilet training.

This week Laurie shared an Enrichment tip ➡️ Try feeding your pups meals from a snuffle mat, to get their little brains thinking, mental enrichment is just as important as physical exercise.

Please call ☎️ the surgery for more information ℹ️

Does a cocker need a coat?

Most cocker spaniels like our gorgeous Mocha (aka yeti) can be pretty weather-proof even in sub-zero temperatures, as their double coat serves them well.

We would love to see photos of your furry friends enjoying the snow ❄️ comment below 👇🏻

However, like us humans, freezing temperatures can be dangerous for our pet companions ⬇️

Fleas, Ticks, and Worms 🪱

Is year-round protection needed for our pets?

Parasite control is often perceived as seasonal. However, fleas ticks and worms 🪱 are not only active in the spring and summer months but are a year-round risk for pets. Therefore, continuous flea and tick protection is essential.

Our Wellness Plan provides year-round protection, with home delivery upon request. Ask the team for more information ℹ️

It’s Snow ⛄️ Joke!

Cold weather ❄️ Tips ❄️

Like us humans our pets can suffer from hypothermia, frostbite, dehydration, and exposure to antifreeze and other chemicals ❌ can be dangerous.

Keep pets inside: Even though some breeds have thicker coats, pets can still get cold and if possible should be kept inside during colder weather. Limit walk times during extreme weather.

Protect paws: Use paw 🐾 protectants or booties to protect paws from salt & chemicals. After walks, wash and dry your pet's paws to remove ice, salt, and chemicals.

Provide shelter: Provide blankets, bedding, towels, or quilts for pets to snuggle in.

Have fun: Many dogs like our Benny 💚💙 enjoy snow because it provides them with a new & exciting sensory experience.

With fireworks 🧨 filling our skies for New Year’s Eve, it can be a stressful time for our pets that don’t like loud noises.

Why are pets scared of fireworks?

Many animals find fireworks scary. It's estimated that 45 percent of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks. It doesn't have to be that way though, so don't ignore the problem.

There are lots of simple things you can do to help your pet deal with fireworks. By preparing in advance before fireworks start your pet will be better able to cope with the noises.
