Hello Lovelies!
I am animals lover and I have beeb following Alberta Wildies society for a long time. Please read it and join the action to safe the wild horses, just sending the emails. Anyone can do it and support this case. Thank you!

I am writing to you because I have been told you are willingly participating in the contraception of the Alberta Mountain Horse. When I first heard the University of Calgary was involved in this, I couldn’t believe it.

I don’t think of myself as anything more than a 68 year old man that has lived in Alberta since 1976. I have voiced my beliefs and opinions on all kinds of things but I have never written a letter to anyone expressing myself. I am now because interfering with these horses is not right.
These horses belong to all the people of Alberta. I, and thousands of other Albertans, haven’t been asked what we think should happen with our horses. I don’t think the government of Alberta or anyone else has the right to decide without first having a public referendum.

I will ask you some questions I would appreciate answers to. I believe that is the respectful thing to do.

Is it true that the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine members Dr. Nigel Caulkett and Dr. Bruce Stover are participating in the Government of Alberta’s contraception plan? I have heard they are. Please advise.

The vaccine that is being proposed for use in this contraception experiment is not registered for use in Canada. The manufacturer of the vaccine does not know if the mares will become permanently sterile. How does the University of Calgary know, when the manufacturer does not? Please advise.

Will the mares (I’ve heard up to 90) the University and WHOAS plan to experiment on, lose the foals they are carrying when the unapproved drug is administered? Will the university monitor all of these mares to ensure they do not have any adverse reactions to the unapproved, experimental drug you plan on using? Will the stallions (I’ve heard 30) you plan to remove and geld receive medical follow up? Infections left untreated can lead to suffering and even death. Can the public come and observe what you plan on doing? I want to be there and I’m positive I am not alone. How about the media? Will the university be issuing a press release so the public, who are not able come and see for themselves, can watch it on the news? Transparency is a good thing. Unless of course, one wishes to hide something.

If the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine members Dr. Nigel Caulkett and Dr. Bruce Stover are participating in the Government of Alberta’s contraception plan, I believe they should be fired immediately. They took the specific Veterinarian’s Oath, swearing to use their knowledge for animal health, public welfare, and to relieve suffering, upholding high ethical standards.
If they are not to be relieved of their duties, or face any disciplinary measures, please advise why the University chose not to do anything about their unethical behaviour.

If the University of Calgary is involved in this controversial plan, I respectfully ask you not to proceed.
To be clear, I do not want Dr. Stover, or anyone else, interfering with Albertans wild horse population!
I believe it will lead to the extinction of this unique wild horse. There is no coming back from that. This isn’t about the welfare of the horses. This is about money. It’s about grazing leases. It’s about greed and the university is right in the middle of it. I think the Universities reputation will take a massive hit because of that.

These wild horses have been here for hundreds of years and I don’t think they are harming anyone. They’re just out there living their lives in nature, co-existing with all the other wild animals. Their population is not exploding. There is no scientific evidence to suggest it is.
A scientific report specific to Alberta’s wild horses by Wayne McCrory, an internationally recognized wildlife biologist, found they were extremely vulnerable to extreme weather conditions, wildfires and predation. There are mares in the Sundre zone that have not had a foal survive a full calendar year for multiple years in a row. That is due to natural mortality. It’s sad for me to think of baby horses getting attacked and killed by wolves, cougars and grizzly bears but that’s nature. The Government of Alberta’s wild horse population numbers derived from their horse counts state that between 2018 and 2024 the number of wild horses dropped from 1712 to 1478. Clearly, that is a decline in the population. I don’t get it. Please enlighten me.
Why do you think culling these horses is necessary? Please advise.

In a Health Canada application package to use the vaccine the Government of Alberta states they wish “to proactively manage young male horses that may be incidentally captured alongside mares and screen studs for adoption suitability. Young studs are more likely to wander east of the EMZ boundaries and create concerns related to private property.” This clearly indicates the true intention here is to reduce the number of wild horses and ultimately exterminate them. Equine Genocide. Truly disgusting.
It may not be obvious to you or the Government of Alberta but young colts (male or female) stay close to their mom. To nurse and for protection. It’s inevitable these young horses are going to be scooped up in the process. This whole thing is so maddening to me. It makes me furious to think there are people who think this is okay. It’s like we haven’t learned a damn thing. Wake up!
Public opinion polls have shown the overwhelming majority of Albertans want their wild horses left alone and are in favour of legislation to protect them. There are currently 3 petitions that have been tabled in the legislative assembly. Unfortunately, I was not able to sign any of them, but 15,188 people did on 1 petition, stating they do not approve of the Governments plan. I, like thousands of other Albertans, do not want to live in a dictatorship. I ask that you respect the petitions and cease all involvement in this asinine plan.
Thank you for reading my letter. I look forward to receiving your answers to the questions I have posed.

Respectfully,

Stefan Wasylyszyn

Italy has passed a law allowing dogs to sit with passengers on planes. 🐶✈️

Italy has updated air travel rules to help dogs fly with less fear and stress. For years, many pets were sent below the plane, alone and confused. The new approach focuses on safety, comfort, and keeping dogs closer to their owners during flights whenever possible across modern commercial airlines today.

Under the updated guidance, even medium and large dogs may stay inside cabins. They must travel in secure carriers and meet airline safety rules. Each airline sets limits, but the shared goal is calmer journeys, fewer injuries, and happier pets staying beside familiar humans throughout busy international flights worldwide today.

Pet lovers across Europe are celebrating the change and watching how airlines respond. Some carriers may move faster than others, but the signal is clear. Animals are family, not luggage. This decision could influence future travel rules and how pets experience long journeys during crowded flights around the world today.

Rest in Peace Brigitte Bardot 💔

After retiring from acting in 1973, she dedicated her life to animal welfare, founding the **Brigitte Bardot Foundation** in 1986. The foundation campaigned against various forms of animal cruelty, including the mistreatment of Spanish greyhounds (known as *Galgos*).

In Spain, thousands of galgos—used for hunting hares—are abandoned or killed brutally (e.g., hanged, thrown down wells, or starved) at the end of each hunting season, with estimates of up to 50,000 affected annually. Bardot and her foundation repeatedly highlighted this issue:

- She wrote letters to Spanish authorities, including the Agricultural Minister (1998) and King Juan Carlos I (2009).
- In 2016 (or around that period), she appealed directly to the King of Spain and launched a petition through her foundation to end the "massacre" of galgos, condemning their "dreadful, slow and agonising deaths."
- The foundation supported broader efforts to protect hunting dogs and pushed for legal changes.

Her work raised international awareness about the plight of these greyhounds, contributing to rescue efforts and pressure on Spanish laws (though full protections for hunting dogs remain limited). This was part of her wider campaigns, which also targeted seal hunting, bullfighting, and horse meat consumption.

Brigitte Bardot passed away on December 28, 2025, at age 91, but her foundation continues its animal protection work.
