“Roxy” wants to remind you that “From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old. You can be fined up to £500 if your dog or cat is not microchipped when they need to be.” For more information, please go to: https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped 🐈 🐈 🐈

New laws have come into force recently for vets in the U.K. and how they prescribe medications 💊

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU AS A PET OWNER? It will now become a CRIMINAL OFFENCE, potentially punishable by jail time, for your vet if they advise you to purchase human medication for your animals without a veterinary prescription, or they prescribe such medications solely based upon the reason of cost.

Vets, therefore, must prescribe appropriately to remain within the law, despite differences in cost of human versus animal medications. So PLEASE don’t blame your vet, they are simply abiding by the law.

‼️CUDDLE ALERT‼️ This gorgeous dog presented with a swelling on her ear. In the vet world, this is known as an aural haematoma. An aural haematoma is a pocket of fluid that builds up on the ear flap 👂 due to excessive shaking of the head, typically secondary to an ear infection 🦠 The ear infection was treated with medication 💊 and Sarah the Vet corrected the aural haematoma via surgery ✂️. As you can tell, the essential cuddles and kisses were provided in ample amounts prior to the surgery. 💙🤍💙

✈️INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL✈️ This is sweet little Peggy 💕Peggy is travelling to Dubai and therefore needed an Export Health Certificate issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV), which luckily, Sarah the Vet at is! 🙋🏼‍♀️ To be an Official Veterinarian a vet must have an extra certification that is appointed by the UK government 🇬🇧 to perform extra duties such as inspecting and certifying pets for travel. Sarah went to Peggy’s house yesterday for a health check 🩺 (which had to be done within 24 hours of travel!), ensure she had all her vaccinations up to date (including her Rabies vaccination 💉), to administer the required tick and tapeworm treatments 💊, and to issue her with an appropriate Export Health Certificate (EHC) 🔖 so she can travel to Dubai ✈️ All of this was done in the comfort of her own home! 🏠 She is now officially on her way to meet her Mum and Dad in Dubai with the help of .on.the.move 🐾 Safe Travels, Peggy 💙 ✈️ 💙

✂️SURGERY✂️ Here is Sarah the Vet 👩🏼‍⚕️ performing an orthopaedic surgery called a femoral head and neck ostectomy 🦴 (FHO), on a British Shorthair cat 🐈 The cat presented with sudden non-weight bearing lameness on the left hind leg. X-rays were performed and it was determined there was a fracture of the femoral head (the ball that sits in the hip joint). During the procedure, the hip joint capsule is surgically opened ✂️, the abnormal or fractured bit of bone (the head of the femur/ball and neck of the femur) is removed and then the remaining bone is smoothed down. The joint capsule is sutured closed and a ‘false’ joint forms in the weeks following the procedure (the muscle around the joint becomes sufficient enough to support the limb). This procedure is typically only done in smaller patients like cats and small dogs (for weight bearing reasons) 🐈🐕 By removing the abnormal bone, the patient ideally is able to move as normal without any deficits. Following the surgery, this kitty recovered with full mobility! 🎉
