🔔 EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT 🔔

We are proud to announce that we are opening a new branch! 🍾 From the 3rd of November Alnorthumbria Farm vets will be opening the doors to our new branch at Shotton Farm. We are excited to be expanding our services around the Scottish border and beyond with our experienced team on hand to help 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.

Practice opening hours will be Monday-Friday 10-3 and please feel free to pop in for a cup of tea, piece of cake and a chat with the vets in the first week! 🍰

BEWARE OF FLUKE

Despite the extremely dry summer, we are beginning to see fluke eggs in faecal samples. This indicates that fluke larvae have been picked up over the last few months, and now matured to egg-laying adults.

These farms admittedly did not experience the drought that many did, but it goes to show that the problem can't be excluded in a dry year.

Please speak to your vet about the risk level on your farm, and options for testing, before treating your stock.

A successful day out for most vendors and buyers at Hexham Auction Mart today at the Blackface Ram Sale. The entry numbers held up to usual standards with some high prices achieved.

September always brings the annual Sheep Veterinary Society conference, this year attended by Pam in Llandrindod Wells. There were 2 days of lectures on sheep nutrition, interesting cases and the most recent research work, plus an afternoon visit to the Elan Valley. As well as hearing about the management of these upland farms that rely heavily on the use of common land, the 70-strong group of vets visited the farm where Gethin Lewis lives and set the 8 hour sheep shearing new British record this summer.
