Love it when Ollie visits and brings his daily haul of stick and ball. He almost always refuses to drop them for a treat as his finds are of such high value!

I sometimes win him over with a pork chunk, sweet potato and sage number on the right days.

Well what can we say? They say it takes a village to raise a child and after our first week trading as The Dog Grocer we can safely say it’s the same for a shop so time to say some mad thanks to people without whom this would never have happened.

Oli for his consistently mint logo design and being a wizard of all things website — JFH wouldn’t be what it is without your eye.

for being with me from day 1, working out layouts, picking up free sinks and pushing me to do the jobs I didn’t want to do (but knew I probably should) AND for doing our interior sign — we may have nearly fallen out a few times over it but boy am I glad to have you in my life.

for the continued business advice — us Westenders are taking over Heaton by stealth!

for helping me with all the tech and till set up!

The massive for answering every ridiculous question I had about how to set up a shop and for constantly reassuring me it would all be okay. Who knew that was actually true?!

To some extra special pals and who’ve kept me sane over the last 2 months and chipped in every way big and small, from sanding wood, to doing daily coffee runs — I’m going to owe you both one big time.

To the best handy guys in the Toon Tony & Dibs (too cool for socials) and for finally getting that floor laid for me when I was ready to give up!

To the JFH Lads for holding the walking side of things together when I was head deep in flooring and for continuing to make all our hounds happy — I’m so lucky to have the best team in the business by my side.

Prince came for a wee shop when we noticed his paw pad was bleeding out on the floor. Quick clean out from our favourite anticbac providers and a nice slick lime green bandage to rock on the walk back home.

So my favourite part about about today was playing the floor is lava with Leo. Fellas had some tough gigs with wood flooring and although he was long & tall enough to stretch and snaffle a sweet snack from the safety of the door mat — the flooring was a little too much to bear.

The secret’s out! The Dog Grocer will officially be opening its doors to the public this weekend (June 1st)

Our mission is to supply low waste, environmentally friendly and natural food, treats, toys and harnesses to the dogs of Heaton and beyond.

We’ve got some amazing stockists on board who follow our values and ethos and we can’t wait to share details of them on this page over the coming weeks. But in the meantime pop in store to browse what we have to offer and get some samples and find out more about how you can better support your dog and the environment through our range.

Our shop sign won’t be installed until next week, so look for 166 Heaton Road in the meantime (next to Siam Supreme).
