We nurture the mental and physical wellbeing of adults with learning disabilities by involving them in running a community farm which brings joy and learning to 30,000 local visitors per year. Through structured placements across our bustling farmyard, gardens and visitor centre, they interact with nature and the wider community, helping them to overcome low self-esteem, loneliness and achieve powerful, lasting change in their wellbeing.

This year we are very happy to be offering a Christmas tree recycling service! 🎄

If you live local to us in postcode areas NE2 or NE6, we can collect your tree from outside your property between 6th and 14th January. The cost for this is £12 and all donations received will go directly towards our charitable work at the farm.

The trees will be chipped and then used throughout the year on the farm, in animal enclosures to keep our animals cosy and clean, and on footpaths. What a lovely and sustainable way to recycle your tree!

You can book the service here: https://buy.stripe.com/28o00A6n0aDXdzicNq Once you have paid, please email your full postal address and an idea of where you will leave your tree (eg. behind bins/ next to wall) to [email protected].

Thank you for your support.

Betwixmas, when everyone forgets what day it is and the chocolates start running out... what better time to fill out our community survey!

It's short and simple to complete, and will help us to shape our direction for 2025 and beyond: https://tinyurl.com/24hnp57a

Don't forget you can also choose to be entered into our competition to win a VIP group experience at the farm! Winners will be announced in the new year.

Your opinions really matter to us - thank you so much.

Volunteer Profile: Meet Jen!

Our lovely Jen started volunteering with us in 2018. Jen had previously studied on animal courses, so she was keen to put the skills she had learnt into practice. Throughout her time as a small animals volunteer, Jen has been able to keep developing her skills by caring for a variety of our farm residents, whether they’re fluffy, feathered or scaly. 🐹 🦜 Since volunteering at the farm, Jen has also developed her customer service skills, from working in our café and then our farm shop. She gained more experience in handling money, stock taking and leading customer service workshops for our adult placements.

You’ll often find Jen in our shop, ready to greet customers with her sunny presence! We asked Jen what her favourite memory of volunteering at the farm was, and she said: “I love Christmas time at the farm, and the annual pantomime is my absolute favourite. I love seeing the placements performing, dancing, singing and telling stories.” When she’s not volunteering at the farm, Jen loves to meet up with her friends and take her dog Buddy on lots of walks.

We had to include a recent snap of Jen in festive mode. 🎅🏻 We’re so grateful to all our volunteers who gave us their time during the build up to Christmas, whether that was through serving customers in our shop or helping to design sets for our pantomime. 💚

Some of our ducks are moving house for the festive period! This space will keep them safe whilst the farm is closed to the public and give them more room to roam around. They also have some big water butts to splash around in. They were pleased to see Lucy who popped back today for the Christmas party 🎅

UPDATE: EVENT POSTPONED

Unfortunately we've had note from Sophie that she is unwell and unable to host this evening's planned talk. We wish her a speedy recovery!

Instead, we'll be sticking with the theme of nature restoration and diving into the world of Beavers, which Heather (Wild Intrigue) will host. See you there! 🦫

A chilled night of mince pies, mulled wine and wildlife chat in Ouseburn is still going ahead! 🍷🐺🥧🦌

As a Christmas treat, our next Ouseburn Wild Talk welcomes award-winning journalist Sophie Yeo, author of the 2024 Wainwright Prize shortlisted book for conservation, Nature's Ghosts: The World We Lost and How to Bring it Back.

-

In Nature’s Ghosts, Sophie examines how the planet would have looked before humans scrubbed away its diversity: from landscapes carved out by megafauna to the primeval forests that emerged following the last Ice Age, and from the eagle-haunted skies of the Dark Ages to the flower-decked farms of more recent centuries.

Along the way, Sophie encounters the environmental detectives – archaeological, cultural and ecological – reconstructing, in stunning detail, the landscapes we have lost.

-

Come along for an Evening with Sophie Yeo, in discussion with Wild Intrigue, as we explore this wonderful book and her wonderful Inkcap Journal.

📍 Hosted at Ouseburn Farm Charity Ltd
📅 Thursday 12th December | 6.30pm start
🎟️ Free and open to all, includes mince pies + hot / mulled drinks!

👉 Please RSVP here, so we don't end up eating eat 50 mince pies... 😅 www.wildintrigue.co.uk/event/ouseburn-wild-talks-an-evening-with-sophie-yeo-author-of-natures-ghosts/

Our Story...

In case you're not entirely sure what we are, we’re a farm! But you won’t find us in the countryside. We're based right in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. We've also got a lovely cafe serving delightful food, and wherever possible we utilise ingredients from the farm itself.

Ouseburn Farm is a local visitor attraction that’s supported by generous donations from people like you. We’re run by dedicated staff and volunteers for the benefit of the community and the environment. We’re a ‘working farm’ as well as a training and education centre. We’re not your typical farm, so you could say we’re a pretty unusual day out in town for all the family.

Our staff and volunteers create a friendly, positive and nourishing environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

We genuinely want to make a lasting difference to people's lives; not just because doing good feels good, but because it's the right thing to do.
