We've just welcomed a very handsome giant day gecko into the shop!
ℹ️ABOUT
Madagascan Giant Day Geckos are one of the largest day gecko species, endemic to Madagascar. They can grow a whopping 9-12 inches long - mucb larger than a crested gecko - and unlike a lot of New Caledonian arboreal geckos, these guys are entirely diurnal, meaning they're out and about and very active during the day. They can be warmed up to handling with effort, but can be very flighty and fast when startled - as with the majority of geckos they can drop their tail when threatened or handled roughly, and in extreme cases can shed its skin as a defense mechanism
🌍ENVIRONMENT
These guys thrive in warm tropical environments and inhabit the wetland forests of Madagascar. They are arboreal, therefore need plenty of height and climbing opportunity in a vivarium - ideally glass - that can withstand a high humidity gradient.
🍴DIET
These lizards are omnivores, meaning they eat insects, but also soft fruits, pollen, and nectar - this can be replicated in captivity via gecko diet such as Repashy, Blue River Diets, Pangea, or Arcadia SFG. For insects, feed on a variety of prey items including locusts, crickets, roaches, calci worms, mealworms, silkworms, and more. Dust all food with calcium, and use a multivitamin such as Arcadia EarthPro-A once a week
