Just a reminder that if you do experience an incident in the woods, please report it to the BHS. Anyone can report their incidents or near misses to the BHS; you don’t have to be a BHS member. Reporting your incidents helps them to better understand the rate of equine-related incidents and near misses across the UK.
Unfortunately there was an incident recently where an out of control dog attacked 2 riders and their horses. All are making a speedy recovery.
We understand most riders who follow this page will know to keep dogs under control around horses, but sharing this message may help prevent any further incidents. You can find information on what to do if you find yourself in a similar incident here:
Unfortunately, sometimes these instincts can take over and result in undesirable behaviours, such as chasing or fleeing. This can be distressing for both animals and handlers, and in the worst-case scenario can be fatal.
