This boy!🥰. Pairing a food reward with distractions is a very simple but powerful training tool that I use ALL of the time (e.g., random loud noise - give a treat, strange dog approaching - give a treat etc). The novel experience (noise, person, dog, squirrel etc) quickly becomes the predictor of good stuff (food) and then instead of reacting (barking, lunging, being fearful etc) the dog sees the scary or exciting thing then looks to me in anticipation of a treat, instead of pulling me over in an attempt to say hello/bark bark barking or any other over reaction you can think of. Brian decided I was letting things slip a little today. When we crossed the car park at Chopwell woods an electric bike whizzed behind us and the weird whirring noise resulted in a tucked tail and a faster trot from this usually chilled out dude as he wondered what the heck had just happened. I spoke to him in a reassuring voice, agreeing that it was a weird noise but he stopped dead in his tracks ,and would move no further, focussing his gaze on my face as only the eyes of a Beagle can, raising a questioning paw. My dull human brain eventually cottoned on: “My sincerest apologies Brian! That most certainly did constitute as both a worrying AND a novel experience. Here’s your treat with poste haste!” 😅🤣.

Dog sitting shenanigans

Kidda became very ill really quickly on Wednesday and I made the decision to have him put to sleep last night. He was diagnosed with cancer (Canine Lymphoma) in early January this year and I’m grateful that he remained so healthy and happy right up till the end. He was full of himself and out with his mates late Wednesday morning xx ❤️🐾❤️
