Last supper here for these guys . They're going over to Bird Aid tomorrow

We've not had any birds here for about 3 weeks other than my regulars who visit daily. These two came over this afternoon , they seem quite happy . They've been playing for the last half hour . I fed them whitebait with morio and mealworms. They ate the fish quickly but then seem quite confused about the live food , it took them a few hours but eventually one got eaten .

Cheeky chappie here enjoying a nice bath this morning . He wasn't happy in the night i could hear him, trying to get out so I locked him in the roosting area overnight . He was at the door from dawn trying to break out so he's had the run of the avaiy since 5 am . I will contact Bird Aid today to see if they're happy to take him , but I suspect he will have to put up with being here for a while whilst we make sure there are no signs of the dreaded bird flu . All in all , a happy , fiesty little fella , despite his incarceration...
I'm off for a siesta while he works out what meal and morio worms are

We just answered an SOS and picked up this cheeky fella from round the corner... I brought him into the house to check there were no obvious injuries . He hopped straight out of the box as I opened it and began strutting his stuff , up and down , cocking his head n peering round corners , absolutely no fear . As i got him a bowl of water from the kitchen he jumped up onto my sofa and stole a chip off my plate ...I'd only just sat down to eat when I got the message about him so I'd left my plate on the sofa next to where I was sitting and gone to go get him .
I watched him for about ten minutes....He stole more of my dinner ( almost professionally ) but has no etiquette what so ever when it comes to eating live food ...the Morio worms , a special treat i gave as an offering got flung all over his box , then he decided to take a swagger through the kitchen out into the gatden to fully take in his surroundings... He's now safely tucked away in bed in the avaiy .
It's facinating how each and every bird has its own unique personality ...
Night x

Bedtime now , but not before supper , boiled chicken tonight while one of Dottys parents keeps an ever watchful eye .

The chick's are getting bigger every day they change . Today they had their run of the enclosure with the pool for the first time , and the latest , smaller chick was given a name , cupcake . Thanks to Winston for naming her .

Due to personal reasons we have been quiet for a few days , but the chick's are doing well and almost ready to go out into the larger enclosure. Here they are having their supper before bed yesterday evening.

The aviary is slowly taking shape , its a big job because its not so much about keeping the birds in as keeping preditors out . Mainly foxes but cats will have a go at these while theyre small too so it has to be really well made . .I had a friend come and dig out the base and then I laid the crates down and turfed over them , the turf was being sold off cheap because it had basically been cooked in the heat but hopefully, with watering each day itl still take . I want them to be able to start hunting for worms etc so its important to give them an area where they can do that .That's why I buy the meal/wax and morio worms and I put shrimps in the water for them to hunt , its all about life skills here Gould Gulls Beaky Finders .... I still need a few dog crates to complete the roof , and will spend today completing the sides of their run with the ones i have here so if anyone has an old crates I can have please let me know and I will arrange collection. Many thanks from Spot and Dotty in advance, who are looking forward to playing in the pool.......
