Positive Return for Divina Grace - The Top Hat and Tales Syndicate

Divina Grace had her first run of the year at Goodwood on Friday 24th May. She ran positively being in touch with the leaders 2f out, stayed on and passed the post to take third place.

There were 11 runners and she was drawn 10, Darragh Keenan took the ride.

Lots to look forward to for The Top Hat and Tails Syndicate and Chestnut Tree Stables with this filly for the season.

A win for the Raffles Angel Syndicate
A super first win for Raffles Angel and the Raffles Syndicate at Ripon on Sunday 19th May under Darragh Keenan.

She was drawn 8 of 14 runners and made a good start, leading from 2f out and kept on well to win.

The syndicate have been waiting very patiently for their horses to run and this is the first time their colours have been used.

Congratulations to all connections and the team at Chestnut Tree Stables.

Volto di Medusa won first time out at Bath yesterday for his new trainer Rae Guest, over 1m under Callum Shepherd. Volto di Medusa (3 year old) is one of three horses owned by a new syndicate called The Twilight Zone Syndicate, which includes two 2 year olds, one by Cracksman and another by Kameko. We still have one share available.

Drawn 8 of twelve runners, Volto di Medusa tracked the leaders, switched right and went second over 1f out. He stayed on to lead inside the final furlong and held on to win.

If you are interested in joining this syndicate please contact the office: [email protected]

We received some sad news this week. Our former Head Lad Steve Lodge passed away peacefully on Wednesday 3rd April at home with Megan at his side.
Lodgie had spent his whole life in racing. He started at 17 years old with David Morely at Timworth near Bury St Edmunds before taking over there as Head Lad in the 1980’s. He rode professionally over hurdles and fences and then trained under his own licence in South Africa for many years. Eventually, Lodgie returned to the UK and took over from John Wilsoncroft as Rae’s Head Lad in 2011. He cared deeply for the horses and looked after them and the yard immaculately. He was a wonderful Head Lad and we missed him when he retired in 2021.
However, he and his partner Megan had a new adventure in their sights which involved moving back to South Africa and buying a property next to a lake where Lodgie could enjoy his fishing. He and Megan were married recently and our thoughts are with Megan at this difficult time. He will be very much missed.

We are looking for a wonderful home for one of our much loved horses. She is a bay, 3 year old filly standing at 15.2hh. She has now finished her racing career, is completely sound and her owners would very much like to find her forever home. Potential applicants MUST have experience retraining thoroughbreds, this filly is very sharp to ride and will not be rehomed to anybody without the relevant expertise. She is also a lightly framed filly so would only be suitable for a lightweight rider. The successful applicant will be required to sign a non- racing agreement and make a £400 donation. This filly deserves a loving home and will not be rehomed to anybody just looking to retrain and sell on. The owners do not want her to be rehomed for polo so please do not apply if this is what you are offering. Potential applicants will be thoroughly vetted. If interested then please apply by EMAIL ONLY by emailing Linda at [email protected] detailing your experience and what you can offer this filly regarding a home.

We are all proud and delighted that Linda Murphy, Rae’s secretary, has reached the final of the 2024 Thoroughbred Industry Awards in the Dedication category. She is a vital member of the team and we are so pleased that her hard work and dedication has been recognised. Linda will attend the star spangled ceremony at Ascot on Monday 26th February with the Princess Royal as guest of honour when the winners of each category and the overall Employee of the Year will be announced. It is fabulous that Linda has made the final and we wish her all the very best for crossing the line in front on 26th February. Whatever happens we know that we are very lucky to have her here at Chestnut Tree Stables - we are very proud of Linda and this is so well deserved for the years she has dedicated to the thoroughbred industry and we are all rooting for her
