It's been a busy week of house sits for our lovely clients, so today we've spent some much appreciated one on one time with our own dogs.
Bluebell will manage to find a ball anywhere! We aren't quite sure how she manages it. 😆
House sits are booking up quickly for this year so please get in touch to book
Getting those recalls in with Fab Flo ❤️
Our usual Sunday walk was heaving this morning. We passed an awful lot of dogs on lead, pulling like mad and dragging their poor owners along.
It's really frustrating, we totally get it! However, if you are repeatedly pulling your dog back whilst shouting 'heel', does your dog actually understand what heel means?
Heel/close/with me, means come to my side and stay there until released. Blue isn't perfect she's only a year old, but she understands where that position is and what's being asked of her (without a ton of treats!)
If you are struggling with lead pulling, start off teaching your dog where you want them to be. They don't have to walk on the left, just whichever side works for you 😊
Getting the recalls in this morning with Fab Flo. We adore Flo. She's such a fun, energetic little dog and is learning to check in, recall from other dogs (which she finds pretty hard) and stay fairly close.
If your dog goes off lead they HAVE to have good recall. Good recall means coming back the instant they are called, and ideally like Blue, sit and wait until released or given further instruction.
Not after they've said hello to a person, run over to play with another dog, or if there is wildlife to chase. If your dog can't do that, they need to be on a lead or longline until they can.
If you are really struggling with recall and/or you your dog has a high prey drive, we highly recommend contacting L.W Canine Behaviour & Training who can help you
It's Fab Flo Friday!
Practicing our loose lead walking this morning. She's a superstar ❤️
Some lovely autumn sunshine ☀️ today.
There might be 12 years difference between them but lovely little Ruby can still give The Tank of a puppy a run for her money!
The C of JC K9 is a bit broken at the minute with a back injury. But I am still out and about (albeit it slowly) and have spaces for your dog to enjoy a walk like this with us
Impulse control
Bluebell is one of our own dogs and at 11months old she absolutely loves swimming, especially if she has a toy to retrieve.
Do we let her run into every body of water she can find? No. We also don't let her run off and leap straight in. Why? Because not every body of water is safe - think about a discarded shopping trolley, rubbish, old fishing line or small children playing and feeding the ducks.
During some months of the year we also get blue green algae. We don't want her running off and not being able to see her either
Impulse control can help massively in many areas, including teaching your dog to walk nicely on lead.
