‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎄’

Today we’ve been busy working on our Christmas stock display ⛄️

With a lovely range of doggy bandanas, Christmas treats, cards, toys and more there is something to suit everyone’s pocket.

We’ll be adding to the display over the coming weeks so please pop in and take a look.

As most of you will have seen, Pete’s son Simon has been back for another visit.

We have some fantastic news that we would like to share with you all!

We are now stocking a range of affordable support wheels for cats and dogs with moving disabilities.

These are produced by Simon using a 3d printer and are uniquely designed with the comfort of the animal and its mobility in mind.

You are welcome to come in and view these at the practice or give us a call for more info.

Today we bid a fond farewell to Pete’s children Simon and Lauren, as they make their way back to South Africa.

Simon and Lauren have spent a fantastic week here with Pete and with us visiting the practice. Lauren even celebrated her birthday with us ( any excuse for cake 😉 )

Lots of downtime to enjoy being tourists, with visits to Osborne House and The Needles included, as well as making happy family memories with Pete.

We’ve loved having you here with us and wish you a safe journey home. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we see you again…. rest assured we’ll take good care of dad for you until your return!

Dear Registered Clients

As you know, we are committed to providing a personal, caring service 24 hours a day, and as part of this effort, we are excited to announce a change in the way we provide emergency care outside of our normal opening times.

Since we opened in November 2022, Peter has been providing his own out of hours coverage every night and weekend, but starting on Monday 28th October we will be trialling a new way of working for emergency calls outside of our normal working hours.

What is changing..?

From Monday 28th October, we will be working with our colleagues at both The Carisbrooke Vets and at Wight Vets to provide out of hours emergency cover for clients of all three practices.
This collaboration is a way to significantly improve long term sustainability for all our clinical teams, who provide 24 hour emergency cover 365 days a year for your pets. If successful, this trial will be extended.

What do I do in an emergency..?

If you have an emergency outside of our normal hours between 5.30 pm and 8.30 am Monday to Friday:
• Call our normal telephone number 01983 653769.
• Press Option 1 to be transferred to The Carisbrooke Vets or our duty vet who will answer your call and advise on the best course of action.

Where do I have to take my pet..?

If you have been advised by the duty vet that your pet needs to be seen, you may be asked to bring them to us here at The Old Granary or to take them to either The Carisbrooke Vets or Wight Vets. They are located at:

• The Carisbrooke Vets – 107 Carisbrooke Road, Newport, IW PO30 1HP
• Wight Vets – 15 Chapel Street, Newport, IW PO30 1PY where there is ample parking opposite in the Chapel Street car park.

Who and when do I pay..?

Payment should be made at the time directly to the practice at which your pet is seen. All the other practices have out of hours fees which are comparable to our own.

What happens if they have to be admitted..?

Any patients who have been hospitalised at another practice for further treatment will be transferred back to our clinic the next day if appropriate. If they are ready to go home by the following morning, they should be collected from the practice where they were hospitalised.

Patients continue to be registered with their respective practices for all routine care and appointments. Your pet’s clinical notes will be shared with the practice you see, should you have an emergency, and clinical notes will be returned to your usual practice the following day so that continuity of care is maintained.

Rest assured that we, as an independent practice, will still be able to provide you with the same level of routine care that you have come to expect from us - you may just be seen by another trusted colleague should you have an emergency overnight or at the weekend. It does not mean that you are being permanently transferred to any other practice.

Good Morning,

Advanced warning that we will experience a short power outage tomorrow morning.

This will be for half an hour approx ( time to be confirmed)

We know at times we get a little busy, there may be a short delay to your appointment time and some of you may need to sit and wait whilst your pets have procedures due to transport issues.
If this is the case, why not grab a hot or cold drink whilst you are waiting?
Drinks are free but donations are very welcome 🤗

Let’s talk poo! Yes we know it’s not a pleasant subject, but when you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go… It’s the same for our beloved pooches.
If your little ( or big one) does a ‘whoopsie’ in the car park and you are caught short without a poo bag, please just come and ask us as we have an abundance of them.
Equally if you spot a poo that doesn’t belong to your woof, please tell us and we will go and dispose of it.
Nobody wants that dreaded ‘ I’ve stepped in something moment’ .
We have a poo bin just outside of the main door for disposal of said poo.
Today one of our very lovely customers not only cleaned up after her own woof, but also 2 ‘fresh deposits’.
Thank you to her for doing so and thank you all for helping us to keep our outside areas clean and tidy 😊

Exciting news for us all today! Parking at the practice has got a lot easier and a whole lot BIGGER! We have secured the land at the side of the practice to massively extend our car park.
Coming from Blackwater end of Sandy Lane you can use the ‘upper’ entrance on the right hand side, coming from the Whitcombe Road end of Sandy Lane you can use the ‘lower’ entrance on your left.
We do ask that everyone exits via the ‘lower’ entrance as the other entrance is a blind turning, and as such it’s much safer to exit the other way. Just be aware of the drop off at the side of the ramp on your way down!
We are expecting new signage soon to make it clearer.
We also ask if larger vehicles can use the upper carpark as it will be much easier for them to park there.

ROAD CLOSURE: 9th - 30th September

From Monday 9th September, Island Roads is closing Whitcombe Road completely for 3 whole weeks from Froglands Lane to Sandy Lane. It is necessary to enable the work to be done safely and in a timely manner.

Therefore the ONLY way to reach the practice will be along Sandy Lane from Blackwater. Turn off the main road by the Toyota Garage and drive along Sandy Lane until you reach us on the right before the bend.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - DRIVE SLOWLY as it is very narrow with several blind bends and there is likely to be oncoming traffic.
