Meet Socks ๐Ÿงฆ! On November 16th, our colleagues at South Wales Vets Newport transferred Socks to us for sedation as his owner had noticed a bramble sticking out of his nose.

He arrived bright and happy but was sneezy and reluctant to let anyone look at his nose. Once sedated, our amazing vet Bianca successfully removed a 7cm stick from his nose! ๐Ÿคฏ Despite a bit of bleeding, Bianca provided medication to minimise it. Our fantastic nurses, Sophie and Wenni, closely monitored Socks during recovery, and he was happily back home after a few hours. ๐ŸŒŸ

Sock's owner has informed us that he's returned to his mischievous self! Pictured is him receiving all the kisses and cuddles from Bianca and Wenni during his recovery. ๐Ÿ’™

Meet Honey, who was brought to our Newport clinic after being referred by her regular vet for ongoing care. The reason? Honey had ingested 8x 200mg Ibuprofen tablets! Swift action was taken by her owners, who promptly brought her to their primary vet. There, they induced emesis (made her vomit) to counter the toxic effects of Ibuprofen on dogs. Due to the severity of the situation, Honey required extended treatment and close monitoring, leading to her transfer to our clinic. ๐Ÿฅ

Under our care, Honey received essential fluid therapy, underwent blood tests, and was closely monitored for 48 hours. Additionally, she was administered medication to soothe her stomach, along with another to bind toxins, preventing their absorption in the body.

Honey was discharged after 48 hours of dedicated care, and here she is pictured with her certificate of bravery ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿถ

On the 5th of October, we welcomed Alfie to our clinic with a concerning issue - a urinary blockage. Our skilled veterinary team promptly placed a urinary catheter, restoring urine flow. However, several hours later, complications arose as the catheter became obstructed. X-rays revealed the presence of multiple stones in Alfie's bladder, and the decision was made to go to surgery and perform a cystotomy.

Alfie remained under our care for two days, and we are delighted to report that he has made a remarkable recovery. We are honoured to present Alfie with our Bravery Award, recognizing his resilience. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ†

Just as her name suggests, Joy is an absolute bundle of happiness! ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ Her loving owner noticed something concerning โ€“ blood in her stools. ๐Ÿ˜” She came to us feeling under the weather, but oh boy, what a trooper she's been!

Our in-house tests raised some questions as they indicated a positive result for parvovirus, even though Joy had completed her full primary vaccination course. To ensure accuracy, we're sending a stool sample to an external lab for confirmation.

The good part is that Joy has completed her treatment and left our care feeling much better. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŒŸ

Poor Pablo had to pay our team a visit after eating fish bait, and there was a genuine concern about the salt content and possible hooks he may have ingested, too. ๐Ÿ˜ง

Our team X-ray'd him twice and discovered the fish hook was initially in his stomach but looked like it had moved to his small intestine. Surgery was performed to remove the hook from his stomach, and we're delighted that Pablo was as bright as a button afterwards and is now home doing well. Here he is, enjoying a cuddle from one of our vets, Beth. โค๏ธ

Hooks can be very dangerous and often require surgery to remove them, so it's always wise to keep an eye on dogs when they are near rivers or harbours used by anglers. It's also important for anglers to be extra careful when discarding fishing tackle and equipment. ๐ŸŽฃ

Introducing Molly, the cutest Yorkshire Terrier you'll ever lay eyes on! ๐Ÿ˜ She recently came to us feeling a bit under the weather, with a lack of appetite and lethargy. But thanks to the exceptional care provided by our incredible vets, Owain and Bianca, Molly was in the best hands. โœจ

A scan revealed that she was suffering from a severe infection of the uterus (pyometra). It was vital to act fast, and our amazing team performed a successful surgery to help her get back on her paws. ๐Ÿถ
Molly is now doing well and back at home with her owners. โค๏ธ

This adorable pup found himself in a sticky situation when he managed to get a fishing hook attached to his lower lip. ๐ŸŽฃ

Showing remarkable bravery, he allowed us to examine the situation, and we quickly realised it wasn't a simple extraction due to the barbed hook on the end. Luckily Ralph remained calm and patient as we fetched a pair of wire cutters. We safely cut the hook in half with precision and care, freeing him from discomfort. He then enjoyed his cuddles and fuss from the team. Here he is pictured with our Vet, Bianca ๐Ÿฅฐ

How beautiful is 1-year-old Travis the German Shepherd ๐Ÿ˜

He had to visit us here at Vets Now Newport last week to receive treatment for dehydration/vomiting & diarrhoea/inappetence.

He was much brighter after 1 hour of being admitted, and he started eating! We think he just wanted to come to the clinic to say hello ๐Ÿ’™
