After the Official launch of our charity last week we are pleased to announce we are currently working on phase 1 of our exciting 5 year plan, a brand new Giant Anteater facility.

After the loss of Alves our female Giant Anteater in February this year we miss housing this beautiful and unique species. Whilst we have no Giant Anteaters at the moment, this is the perfect opportunity to build a new facility before welcoming them back to the zoo.

As we work on the finer details there is lots to consider. Not only do we want the enclosure to be bigger and better for this species, it is also important that it enhances our visitor experience so we can continue with our charity’s mission of becoming a leading Education and Conservation Facility through informing and inspiring all generations of the plight of the natural world

We have chosen Giant Anteaters as our first project because they are currently classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red Data List and their population in the wild is sadly currently decreasing. They are such an unusual species and are extremely popular with our visitors too. They are managed in zoos across Europe as part of an Endangered Species Breeding programme to help secure their future and we want to play our role in this plight.

It is hard to predict the exact costs of their new enclosure as work will not start until the earliest 2025 however the fundraising committee have set themselves and initial target of raising £25’000.

The charity’s first two fundraising events will be an online auction in August (more information to follow) and a Quiz at the zoo in September. Please support us if you can. There are lots more ways you can help us make our dream become reality and we’ll be sharing these with you all over the next couple of weeks

Look what we’ve found at the zoo this afternoon, it’s travelled all the way from Plymouth!

A lovely stone painted like a birds head! 🦅💛🤍

We’ve left it somewhere safe (away from the animals) for someone to pick it up and continue its journey!

We are incredibly proud to announce we are moving into a new era by launching our charity the…

Amazon Rainforest Conservation Centre!

For the last 32 years Amazon World Zoo Park has been a privately owned zoo by Derek and Sandra Curtis who have built the zoo into the amazing animal collection it is today.

Amazon World Zoo Park welcomes around 50’000 visitors each year therefore the park is an extremely important location for conservation and education and the charity will now continue to grow and develop the zoo for future generations by educating and engaging our visitors in the plight of the Natural World.

Amazon World Zoo Park has evolved to allow visitors to immerse themselves amongst rare and unusual species. Getting up close and personal to our animals makes learning about them even more fascinating.

Currently home to 95 different species, including unusual animals like Sloths, Armadillos, Anteaters, Red Pandas and Slow Loris.

Amazon World Zoo Park has been one of the Islands favourite attractions since 1993, it is a member of both BIAZA (British & Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria) and EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) and works alongside zoological parks all around the world protecting and also breeding some of the rarest species like Bali Starlings and Cotton Top Tamarins which are classified as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. A ¼ of our species are classified as Near Threatened or worse.

The Amazon Rainforest Conservation Centre will not only continue to support the Reddish Buff Moth, an extremely rare and Vulnerable moth that is found in one particular location on the Isle of Wight but will also build on its dedication to support work carried out in the Amazon Rainforest.

Our vision for the future is to not only continue to improve the habitats of our existing species through development of their enclosures but also do even more to secure the future of some of the planets most amazing species and also continue to improve the experience for our visitors too.

We will now be embarking on our very exciting 5 year plan so watch this space!
