We are back open!🎉 After a brief two-day closure for routine tree maintenance, we're excited to welcome visitors back this morning at 10:00am🌴

Thank you so much to .sense.ltd for all the brilliant work they have done for us on site, carefully taking away trees that were posing a risk🌳🌲🌴 Lots of the branches will be re-used onsite as perches for the animals, and some will be turned into chips for the enclosures!♻️

We have a superb fruit dove chick!😍🐣🍎

The chick has just turned 5 weeks old, and is making excellent progress - just look at those feathers! This is the first time a superb fruit dove chick has fledged at Newquay since 2018🐤

Here's what Dan, Senior Bird Keeper, has to say about the new arrival:

"We're extremely excited to have a chick hatch of this fantastic species for the first time in a number of years. The parents chose an interesting time of the year to hatch their first offspring together so our team have been closely monitoring the birds over the last month to ensure the smooth development of the chick. Our collection have been particularly successfully with a closely related species, the pink-headed fruit dove, over the last few years so we're hopeful now with this first chick reared that our superb fruit doves can follow suit in the coming years."

It's Penguin Awareness Day!🐧❤️

Today, we're celebrating our charismatic Humboldt penguins! Native to the coasts of Chile and Peru, these adorable birds are known for their unique personalities and their impressive swimming skills, reaching speeds of up to 18mph!🏊‍♀️💨

Humboldt penguins are currently classified as Vulnerable in the wild due to threats like habitat loss and overfishing. By visiting us, you're helping to support vital conservation efforts to protect these amazing animals🐧🌎

We are so lucky to have had such a fantastic breeding year with our penguin colony in 2024, with one stand-out story being Windy and Nacho. 30-year-old female Windy had her 23rd chick with 4-year-old Nacho, proving that love has no age limits in the penguin world❤️

Please be advised that Newquay Zoo will be closed on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24rd January due to essential tree work across the site🌳

This decision has been made to ensure the safety of our visitors, staff, and animals. The necessary work will include removing hazardous limbs, felling damaged trees, and addressing storm damage throughout the zoo.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

⚠️CAFE LEMUR TEMPORARY CLOSURE⚠️

As we make some essential upgrades to Café Lemur, we will be temporarily closing our indoor café for two weeks commencing 11th January 2025👷‍♂️

Whilst this closure is in place, we will be re-opening Tipi’s takeaway to help fuel hungry explorers, and our ample picnic spots around site are always ready to play host to the family picnic🥪🥤

Tipi’s Takeaway will be selling a reduced menu of:
Pizza
Chips
Hot dogs
Pasties
Selection of sandwiches, cakes & snacks
Hot and cold drinks
Ice creams
