It's Chip Your Pet Month!
There are a few really important reasons why you should have your dog microchipped 🐾
1) It is the law that all dogs in NI are microchipped at 8 weeks of age. If you purchase a puppy, it should already be microchipped to the breeder and it is then your responsibility to change the contact details to your own. Although this may seem like a nuisance, it's for good reason. While buying a puppy that is microchipped doesn't mean that your chosen breeder is reputable, it is a massive red flag for a breeder to be selling unchipped puppies.
2) If your dog ever goes missing, a microchip is the best way of ensuring you will be reunited with your beloved pet. Up to date details mean that a simple scan from a veterinary practice or lost and found group can get your dog home in record time. Without a microchip? Your dog is much more likely to end up in the dog pound, where you'll have to pay a fine to have him released.
So, if you haven't had your dog microchipped, please do so this month. It really could be the difference between you ever seeing your pet again if they escape or are stolen.
If your pet is already microchipped, call to your vets and ensure that the chip is easily located, and that your details are up to date.
Both you and your dog could be very grateful for this one day 🐶
