⭐️ Sarah-Jayne ⭐️

Next up is Sarah-Jayne who came to Mourne Veterinary Clinic last July to complete her final year of placement and has been a part of our team ever since. She graduated from Dundalk Institute of Technology November 2023 receiving awards for ‘Veterinary Nursing Graduate of the Year’, president’s prize for ‘Academic Excellence’ and Duggan’s prize for ‘Excellence in Anaesthesia’. 🎓🏆

She has a keen interest in small animal patients, with a dog, two rabbits and two guinea pigs to keep her occupied at home. She particularly enjoys monitoring anaesthetics during surgeries, as well as taking x-rays, but most of all having a play with all the four legged friends that come through our doors. 🩻🐰

In Sarah-Jayne’s free time you will find her either walking her beagle Roxy, or spending time and competing her horses Chelsea Rose, Star and Zara. 🐶🐴

⭐️ Meet the Nurses ⭐️

First up is Lisa . A lot of people may know her already as she’s been knocking around for about 18 years in Mourne Vets 😱 After a long haul she graduated from Greenmount in 2014 (celebrating her 10 years of her nursing career this year 🙌🏻). She has seen a lot of staff come and go in Mourne Vets and she couldn’t see herself anywhere else. She loves dealing with the clients and their pets but also loves having the chats with the large animal clients. She’s seen patients from their very first visit to their last visit over the years and helps supports clients through the difficult times.
Not far from her heels is her companion Winnie who you may see sleeping under the reception desk keeping warm. Lisa loves nothing more than a schnauzer 🐶
In her spare time she’s trying to keep her 2 nieces Annie & Lily and nephew Henry entertained. If she’s not in work there’s a high chance she’s on an adventurous holiday or a concert lol

Saturday 30th March - Open as normal
Easter Monday 1st April - CLOSED
Tuesday 2nd April - Open as normal

Please order all repeat prescriptions at least 24 hours in advance and have it collected before we close on Easter Monday.
A vet will only be available for emergencies.

⭐️ International Womens Day 2024 ⭐️
We celebrated it today by helping Jade with a sheep c-section . It was all in a days work as Spring only means one thing and that’s more and more sheep 🐑
We have a lot of women in our practice doing loads of different jobs and we are thankful for every one of them . Our saying is “we are the backbone of Mourne Vets” 👍🏻👍🏻

Our first patient though the door was the spotty Pinto 🐶 She was getting her 2nd vaccination with Liam today and my goodness she was just adorable ❤️ She’s the first Dalmatian puppy to come through the doors in a long time. Glad to see one in Kilkeel ❤️🐶

The team at Mourne Veterinary Clinic are pleased to say we have passed our RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. This scheme promotes and maintains the highest standards of veterinary care.
Our practice was inspected and assessed at the end of last year. We were assessed on customer care, cleanliness and hygiene, our facilities and equipment and staff training and development.
A lot of practices don’t have this accreditation so we are very pleased to have passed this.
We are committed to giving your pet the best possible care and we have worked hard to achieve this.
We are extremely proud to be one of few practices to achieve this in the area.

‼️RCVS Care Guideline Changes - For Small Animal Pet Owners‼️

The RCVS, which is the governing body of all veterinary surgeons in the UK, have made some changes to their code of conduct which must be followed from January 2024.

The new “under-care” guidelines mainly affect antimicrobials (antibiotics), antiparasitics (flea and worm treatments) and controlled drugs ( such as strong pain killers like gabapentin).

It means we cannot prescribe or give out these drugs without having seen the animal for a consultation first, except in exceptional circumstances.

This may mean you might be asked to bring your pet in for check ups more regularly, so we can follow the new rules. For flea and worm treatments an annual check at your pets vaccination should be adequate.

For other drugs, especially controlled/dangerous drugs, an over the phone consultation or repeat prescription may not be permitted.

Please be understanding to our staff if they ask you to bring your pet to be seen.
