What if we told you that getting your cat to the vets doesn’t have to be dramatic?

😺 Step 1: go get your cat carrier (yes, we mean now)
Making the carrier a part of your cat’s usual environment can help them feel more comfortable with it. Just leave it there in the open, and in no time, you’ll find your cat exploring it. 🔍

😺 Step 2: turn on the appeal
What about putting a blanket inside it? Maybe some toys? A tasty treat? Spraying some relaxing pheromones? The idea here is to find something that your cat likes to lure them into going inside.

😺 Step 3: outright bribery
Once they take the initiative to go inside, make sure to reward them! This can help create a positive association, making it more likely for your cat to want to repeat this behaviour.

This can be a lengthy process, but please don’t rush it. It will all be worth it when you need to bring your cat in! 🐈

Does your pet...

👉 … eat a lot but seem to be losing weight?

👉 … drink too much water?

👉 … seem lethargic and not wanting to play as much?

👉 … urinate more than usual?

If you recognise these signs, your pet might have diabetes!

Also called diabetes mellitus, this disease causes cats and dogs to have insulin issues that prevent them from regulating their blood sugar. An excessive increase in blood sugar, if sustained for too long, can damage many organs, including the brain, kidneys, and eyes.

Fortunately, with the proper medication, this condition can be managed successfully. If you see any of these signs, don't hesitate to talk to us!

Though there are a number of reasons why adopting a pet is a good idea, there are some against it that need to be considered just as carefully!

Have a look at our checklist below: if you tick any of these boxes, we would recommend not adopting.
If you're in no condition to adopt right now but still love animals unconditionally, why not volunteer at the shelter or consider fostering? They're likely to need the help and, this way, you can share some of your love with animals in need. 🥰

Though every day is a surprise at our practice, there are some things that we see more often than others. Here’s our top 3:

💩 Diarrhoea – be it for having eaten something out of the ordinary or due to long-term intestinal disease, diarrhoea can have several causes that need to be properly diagnosed and treated.

🐾 Itchiness – this problem can often go unnoticed for some time, as some scratching is normal for pets, and it can be hard to recognise that it might be excessive until skin lesions start showing up.

⚖️ Weight loss – as weight loss tends to be gradual as well, it can also take you some time to recognise that your pet’s weight has changed. Again, there are a number of different diseases that can lead to weight loss, even without apparent changes in appetite.

If you recognise any of these signs on your pet, it’s important to investigate what might be behind them 🔍, so don’t hesitate to book an appointment with us!

Dogs are wonderful, joyous animals, but sometimes their timing and enthusiasm can lead to awkward situations, including:

🐶 Fetching dirty laundry in the middle of your date

🐶 Hu***ng a stranger's leg

🐶 Breaking wind in a lift

Has this ever happened to you? 🤭 What was the most embarrassing thing your dog ever did? Share with us in the comments!

Mental health is not just for people! 🧠 Our pets can also feel anxiety and stress in such a way that can have an important impact on their quality of life.

Here are some of the situations that might be hard for your pets:
🐾 Not having a place to go to and rest from having to interact with children, other pets or strangers whenever they want to;
🐾 Too few opportunities to play, go for walks or spend quality time together with you;
🐾 Routines that are consistently disrupted, such as changes in feeding time or when people are likely to be home.

If you’re worried about your pets’ stress levels, we can help! We can help you figure out the best way to help them feel better, so don’t hesitate to talk to us. 📲

Older pets are amazing company! There are many advantages to adopting an older dog 🐶 or cat 🐈 such as:
🐾 What you see is what you get, so no surprise growth spurts or significant body changes:
🐾 They are house-trained, usually love taking it easy, and their personality is already fully developed;
🐾 As they are less likely to be adopted, you’d be helping a pet in need and getting a fantastic buddy!

Did you know boarding kennels and doggy daycares have kennel cough vaccine requirements for their guests? 🏨 🐶

Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease that causes a persistent hacking cough in dogs, often sounding as if there's something stuck in their throat. While it’s not usually a deadly disease, young puppies, sick dogs and golden oldies might have a severe form of kennel cough, which is why it’s essential to try and prevent outbreaks in places with lots of dogs in close contact.

To ensure you have a relaxed holiday right from day one, don’t forget to make sure your furry friend has their kennel cough vaccine all ready to go.

If you'd like to know more about kennel cough vaccination and to make sure your dog is protected, don't hesitate to give us a call!

Do you know what is the most diagnosed cat disease in the UK? Gum disease! Also called periodontal disease, it represents a whopping 15% of problems diagnosed annually and it is likely that your cat might be suffering or will suffer from it.

It’s important to keep a keen eye on your pet’s gums and if you notice redness, bleeding or difficulties eating, book an appointment with us!

Ticks are not just a skin problem! They can transmit diseases like Lyme Disease, not just to our beloved pets, but also to people.

The best way to avoid bothersome ticks is to keep your furry friend’s parasite control up to date, especially during the hotter months, and if you like going out to parks or other places with tall grasses, don’t forget to check for ticks!
