A brilliant post!

Do you use a ball chucker / ball launcher?
They could be doing your dog more harm than good.
Why? Repeated ball chasing can cause repetitive strain injuries to joints, muscles & tendons.
If you jumped straight out of the car & ran 20-30 or more shuttle runs then straight back in the car with no warm up or cool down, how might your muscles feel the following day? Sore? Stiff? Tired?
Now add an unstable surface like sand or a hill into the equation?
Repetitive braking & skidding causes damage to muscles, joints and cartilage, however the dogs excitement at the chase overrides the pain.
If your dog has arthritis, muscular or joint issues they will still get excited & chase the ball. The adrenaline of the chase will override pain. But this could be causing long lasting damage to their joints.
What can you do instead?
🐾Throw the ball by hand-a shorter distance doesn’t allow for such a build up in speed, therefore reducing the impact of braking.
🐾Warm your dog up first and cool them down afterwards.
🐾Try rolling the ball instead to avoid your dog jumping and twisting.
🐾Try throwing the ball into long grass and releasing your dog after the throw so that they use their nose as well to find it.
🐾Try hiding the ball instead of throwing it.
