GORGEOUS GEORGIE 🥰
Georgie came in for the second stage of her dental and got absolutely pampered by our lovely nurses 💕
We like to spend time with our patients to care for them as if they were our own. As much as the cuddles are for our benefit too 🥰, it also helps them feel relaxed and at ease when they're worried about where they are and what is happening.
We want to make the vet experience a positive one 😊
Georgie was lapping up the attention, and went home a very happy girl😊
We look forward to seeing you again soon, Georgie ❤️🌟

Isn't Raya beautiful 🐱😍
Raya came to see one of our lovely vets for her annual vaccinations and she made her self very at home 🥰
Vaccinating your cat is one of the best ways to protect them from serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. These illnesses — like feline parvovirus, feline herpesvirus, and feline leukaemia virus — can cause lasting health issues and can sometimes be fatal.
Vaccines also help prevent the spread of disease within the broader cat population. This protection is especially helpful in areas with lots of cats.
Raya has joined our Pet Health Club scheme, so her vaccinations and flea and worm treatment were all included within her monthly subscription 😊

BE AWARE OF ANTIFREEZE POISONING‼
As the frost begins to settle over our pavements and cars, the use of antifreeze becomes more common. Unfortunately, antifreeze poisoning in cats is a serious risk that cat owners need to be aware of. Even a small amount of antifreeze can have serious consequences for cats - a fatal dose can be less than a teaspoonful.
If you think your cat may have ingested any amount of antifreeze, or you see any of the above symptoms, seek emergency veterinary attention.

Watch your dog's weight this winter🐾‼️ Less exercise over colder months and slight overfeeding could have a big impact. It can be very tempting to overindulge when it comes to feeding treats to your dog, especially when they're giving you the famous puppy-dog eyes!
At the same time, you might be shortening their walks, especially during the colder weather,, because being outside isn't pleasant.
This could add up to more calories going in and less being used up – which often results in weight gain. These behaviours can make your dog overweight or obese, so it's important to keep an eye on your dog's weight 🐕🦺🐕🦺
Dogs' weight can be a tricky one because no two dogs are the same; if you're worried, it's always worth contacting your vet. They will be able to determine whether your dog is overweight, and to offer the best dietary and exercise advice if they are!

Be sure to keep an eye out for grit and salt, as it can hurt a pet's paws! ‼ Check your pet's paws before bringing them back inside after a walk because they could have stepped in grit salt. Grit, otherwise known as rock salt, is used to help deice roads in winter - but it is extremely dangerous to animals if ingested and can damage paws🐾

7 simple steps to brush your cat's teeth!
Did you know brushing your cat's teeth is just as important as regular vet visits? 🐱🪥 Keeping their smile fresh helps prevent dental disease and keeps them purring happily! Start slow, use pet-safe toothpaste, and make it part of your routine for a healthier, happier cat. 😸
🐾 Flea season is here! 🐜
As the weather warms up, fleas become more active—making it the perfect time to protect your pets. Regular grooming, flea prevention treatments, and keeping your home clean can help keep those pesky bugs at bay. Don’t let your furry friends suffer! 🐕🧴 #FleaSeason #PetCare #FleaPrevention #HealthyPets
The practice was started in 1904 by Captain Hearn, who was a volunteer from the Royal Veterinary Corps during the Boer War and World War 1. We started out at 19 Gestridge Road, seeing small animals ‘around the back’ and doing the book-keeping in the dining room, and bought our present premises at 21 Gestridge Road (not far away!) in 1974 and since then, we’ve expanded twice.
From father to son there had been a vet in the family traced back to 1770 and believed earlier still. Captain Hearn was brought up in Dunsford where his father was a practicing veterinary surgeon, travelling to outlying farms by pony and trap.
After qualifying at the Royal Veterinary College in London he returned to Dunsford to assist his father. At the outbreak of Boer War, he enlisted in the army as a veterinary officer and was immediately posted to South Africa here he served for the duration of the war. On returning to Dunsford the village was decorated in his honour, and the band met him at Dunsford Holt Station.
He got married when he was 29, and in 1904 started his own practice in Kingsteignton. He once again enlisted as a vet at the outbreak of World War 1.
At the end of the war in 1918 he returned to Kingsteignton where he continued to run the practice single handed. He was dedicated to his work and was available for emergency call outs morning, noon and night.
Captain Hearn was particularly skilled in treating horses due to the experience he gained during his service in the two wars and his advice was sought from far afield.
He was the veterinary surgeon for Newton Abbot Racecourse, and he also lectured at Seale Hayne College.
In 2004, we celebrated our centenary with the people of Kingsteignton with a fete/dog show on Oakford Lawn. We love to be involved in the communities we are a part of, and participate in several local events throughout the year.
Once again in 2018, we were proud to retain the RCVs Practice Standards Small Animal Practice award, meaning we achieved the highest level of standards expected of Small Animal Veterinary Practices, we one of the few veterinary practices in Teignbridge to have obtained this award.
